PORKERS SHOW LITTLE CHANGE AT CITY YARDS; “——— — Cattle Market Features Slow, Peddling' Trade; Sheep Weak. Hogs showed lit Ip change Friday at the city yards, prices holding steady to 5 cents up for the most part. The bulk. 140 to 325 pounds, sold for *3.75; early top holding at S3M. Receipts were estimated at 7,000; holdovers were 52. Cattle were featured by a slowpeddling trade on all slaughter classes. Receipts were 400. Veters were 50 cents higher at $7 down. Caives receipts were 500. ' - Lambs were around 25 cents lower in the sheep market, selling mostly at $5 50 down. Top price was $5.75. Receipts were 1.600. Early trade in hogs at Chicago moved slow, with asking around 5 to 10 cents higher than Thursday s average, while few bids held about steady. The bulk of 190 to 210pound weights was bid in at $3.90. GOOD DEMAND SENDS WHEAT PRICES HIGHER Better Tone at Liverpool, Strength in Securities Aid Futures. BY HAROLD E. RAINVILLE United Press Staff Correspondent CHICAGO, Oct. 15. —Showing decided strength, wheat ran up sharply on the Board of Trade Friday, and while not holding the best prices, finished around 1 cent higher. Trading turned inactive toward the last with the local element afraid to take the selling side. The strength in stocks was a large factor In the advance in wheat. Buying by houses with eastern and foreign connections brought in short covering early. Corn, oats and rye all moved up for small gains with wheat, the latter recovering from an opening dip that sent May to anew low. Close Is Firm At the close wheat was 1 to 11.l 1 . cents higher; corn was unchanged to % cent higher; oats % cent higher, and rye , 3 . cent higher. Provisions were strong on lard and weak on meats. Liverpool wheat strengthened near the close and finished M cent to Vi cent higher. There was more interest in the market than for some time early, and the advance was easily achieved. Cash prices were 1 2 cent to 1 cent higher. Receipts were 16 cars. Cash Corn Active Corn held firm with wheat and moved up % cent to Vi cent by mid-session. The overnight developments were featureless, but cash Circles were active. The country booked 160,000 bushels early, while sales were 117,000 bushels and charters were made for 210,000 bu.'hels to go east. Cash prices were unchanged. Receipts were 369 c?rs. Oats registered a gain of % cent early on the better feeling in the other pits, and rye rallied from a lower start to show net gains of % cent to % cent. Oct. 15.—A bull coup 1 sent stock market soaring 1 to 6 points.in the first half of Friday’s session in active turnover; then the trading turned dull, though prices held all but a point or so of the rise, j Prices started irregularly higher and immediately set off on an upward course. Shorts took fright and , covered recent commitments. Shortly after noon, highs for the day were touched. After that the market became more orderly and fluctuated within a point or two of the best levels of the day.
