STATE PYTHIAN SISTERS PARLEY OPENSJ CITY 600 Delegates From All Parts of State at Grand Temple Session. Approximately 600 Pythian Sisters from all p*irts of Indiana attended the opening sessions of the fortyfourth annual state convention of the grand temple in the K. of P. building. Business matters held attention of the delegates most of the day. Grand temple degree was given 167 candidates at exercises this morning. Annual banquet with members of of the Grand lodge. Knights of Pythias as guests, will take place tonight in the Travertine room of the Lincoln. Speakers at the dinner will be Mrs. Mary Terwiliger of Livingstone, Mont., supreme chief, and Edwin R. Thomas of Ft.. Wayne, new grand chancellor of the Knights of Pythias. Mrs. Minne Johnson of Indianapolis is in charge of the banquet committee. A visitor to the conference is Mrs. D. Sadie Price, Detroit, Mich., past grand chief of the organization. Officers will be installed at ceremonies following the banquet. Candidates for the office of grand outer guard are Mrs. Hannah Cravens Krisher of Frankfort and Mrs. Rachel Jones of East Chicago. Degrees will be exemplified by the Sunshine Girls of Aurora. Tonight's program will close with a dance and music by thA Aurora orchestra. The convention will adjourn Friday afternoon.
COURTS THAT BOW TO POLITICS ASSAILED Hamilton County Circuit Judge Speaks at City Bar Group's Dinner. Courts that bow to politics, giving favors here and there, were scored by Circuit Judge Fred E. Hines of Hamilton county, at the annual guest meeting of the Indianapolis Bar Association at the Columbia Club Wednesday night. "There should be some way to take the judiciary out of politics,” he asserted, "and not force the judges to participate in primary elections, bowing to bootleggers and ward heelers.” He declared he favored revision of the state Constitution that would dignify the courts of Indiana. Judges and members of the bar from seven counties adjoining Marion were present. Supreme, appellate, federal and local court judges also attended. POLICEMAN’S WIFE FREE IN GUN CASE Judgment Withheld After Judge Shcaffer Hears Evidence. Following hearing on a charge of shooting with intent to kill, Mrs. Donald Milburn, wife of a policeman, was given her liberty Wednesday by Municipal Judge William H. Shea flex', who withheld judgment. Mrs. Milburn, who lives in a downtown hotel, was charged with shooting at Mrs. Rose Campbell, 222 North Liberty street. The wife is said to have charged Mrs. Campbell was intimate with the officer. WAR SPY TURNS MONK Trebitsch Lincoln Back in Germany in Robes of Buddhist. By United Press BREMEN, Germany, Oct. 6.—Trebitsch Lincoln, famous during the World ■war as a spy, has arrived here from China, traveling on a Chinese passport as Chao Kung, Buddhist monk. Lincoln wore the robes of a monk. His head was closely shaved and twelve rings, symbolic of the Buddhist wheel of life, were burned into his scalp. "Once I sought revenge against England for the execution of my son,” ’Lincoln said when he arrived on the Norwegian steamer Trianon. "But now I have renounced all vengeance. All I seek is peace.” His son was executed for murder.

LANDONJEADS DRIVE Banker Named Chairman of Special Fund Committee. Preliminaries of the annual Indianapolis Community Fund drive for relief funds were under way today with announcement that Hugh McK. Landon, vice-president of the Fletcher Trust Company, will act as chairman of the special gifts division. When the drive actually begins. Nov. 11. an "army of mercy,” consisting of more than 3,000 workers, will start a city-wide solicitation for funds for support of the needy. Speakers’ bureau of more than 200 Indianapolis men and women is being organized to aid in the campaign. TYPO CHIEF ON AIR President Howard Will Speak Over Columbia Chain Sunday. Charles P. Howard, president of the International Typographical union, with headquarters at Twen-ty-eighth and Meridian streets, will give a thirty-minute radio address beginning at'noon Sunday on “Collective Bargaining,” over the Columbia Broadcasting System from station WBBM, Chicago.

First slot in his campaign to swing Indiana to the Democratic column was taken by Rudolph G. Leeds, wealthy Richmond newspaper and magazine publisher and agriculturist, at a Wayne county rally here Wednesday night. Leeds, a Republican for many years, has tak*n to the stump for the Democratic state and national tickets, and in his introduction of Frederick Van Nuys, Democratic senatorial nominee, flayed the lack of a constructive agrciultural program In the Republican platform. "In 1928,” said Leeds, “congress passed a measure for controlling agricultural surpluses called the equalization fee plan; the principle of which Brazil is using right successfully now for controlling her gigantic coffee surplus. "President Coolidge vetoed that bill! "The same measure was passed by congress in 1929 and President Hoover vetoed it!
