FREE MEDICAL AID IN SCHOOLS IS UNDER FIRE Doctor Group Charges Some Pupils Given Treatment Able to Pay. Although recognizing "splendid work done by the city health board in prevention of contagious diseases, particularly among school children," the Indianapolis Medical Society feels the board has overstepped itself In supplying free antitoxin and vaccination to all children applying to the school doctor. Demand is voiced in the October bulletin of the society for investigation of the problem of charity medicine and the alleged encroachment on private medical practice by persons able to pay for medical care, but receiving free attention. Tn a, statement signed by twelve practicing physicians, the protest states that no child or adult should be admitted to city hospital without. a card signed by his physician and a representative of a recognized charity organization, attesting specifically that the patient is unable to pay anything for medical service. Many persons are being admitted to charity hospitals and dispensaries when they are in a position to pay at least a nominal sum to their physician, the statement says. FARM JOURNAL JOINS DRY LAW REPEAL FORCES •Country Home 1 Announces Definite Stand Against Prohibition Rule. fit/ Times Special NEW YORK, Sept. 30.—Farm opinion, hitherto regarded as the bulwark of prohibition, has shifted against the eighteenth amendment, according to the Country Home, national agricultural journal, with a circulation of nearly 2,000,000. In an editorial announcement favoring repeal of the prohibition law, the magazine today urges farmers to bestir themselves for a definite plan of liquor control to follow the legal restoration of liquor in America. The editor. Thomas E. Cathcart. said in commenting upon this: "Public opinion in the small towns and in the rural districts has shifted against the eighteenth amend-

"After a trial of a dozen years, many farm leaders formerly of the belief that the temperance cause would be served best by national prohibition have become dissatisfied with the way in which the experiment has worked. "But there always is the incontrovertible fact that human nature is so constructed that unrestricted access to alcoholic beverages is bound to be a great social menace. Therefore the great necessity for farm leaders at present is straight thinking. “We are going to have a change. But it is of supreme importance that the original objective should not be lost in the confusion and excitement of the change. The great agricultural population of the country wants the nation to go forward with its eye on temperance, not backward to debauchery."
