PURDUE BATTLES KANSAS STATE/INDIANA FACES OHIO U.
Open Grid Campaigns Notre Dame Idle: De Pauw, Wabash and Franklin in Action. Two of Indiana’s “big three” of the collegiate gridiron show go on parade for the first time this season Saturday. Purdue, lavorea to gallop away with the 1922 Big Ten laurels, faces a bitter battle from the start, taking on Bo McMilHn's speedy Kansas State eleven at Lafayette. Indiana also passed up a soft touch for the opener and takes on tough Ohio university, a team which has won twenty-six of its last twenty-seven battles. Notre Dame, remains idle until : next Saturday. Meanwhile, eleven other state college teams will line up for action tonight and Saturday. Graham Is Kansas Ace Purdue's big problem Saturday will be to stop “Ramming Ralph” Grrjiam, Kansas’ all-Big Six fullback in 1931. Graham is the keyman of the famous “five-man backfield” which Bo McMillan, former all-American quarter back, is using. A veteran back field and speedy line will carry the Kansas victory hopes. Outstanding members of the forward w'all are Walter Zeckser, the 165-pound guard, and L. W. Michael, 195-pound center. Purdue, with a group of fleet vetpran backs, is the favorite despite an inexperienced line which has j shown defensive flaw's in recent practice sessions. I. U. Prospects Bright With prospects for the best season in years, Billy Hayes’ Indiana warriors will be at full strength for Ohio U. The Crimson nosed out the Buckeyes, 7 to 6, in the 1931 lid-lifter, the only setback sustained by Ohio in three years. With most of last, year’<?~combination back in service, Ohio hopes to even the count. Veterans will predominate in the Hoosiers’ starting lineup despite a wealth of sophomore material. Don Veller, triple-threat quarter back, is the only rookie considered for a starting berth against the Buckeyes. Franklin at Wabash Franklin’s powerful eleven invades Crawfordsville to take on Pete Vaughan’s Wabash pastimers, De Pauw', 1931 state secondary champs, face trouble with Manchester at Grecncastle, Central Normal invades Valparaiso and Ball State takes on Earlham at Richmond in other Saturday battles. Rose Poly invades Hanover and Evansville plays Southeastern Missouri at Giradeau, Mo., in games tonight.
