CHAMBERLIN CLUB FORMED Lawyers Open Campaign to Re-Elect Judge. Announcement of organization of a lawyers' “Chamberlin-for-Judge Club,” seeking re-election of Circuit •Judge Barry O. Chamberlin, was announced today by Howard S. Young, Indianapolis attorney and president. Offices have been opened at M)7508 Lemcke building, in charge of John A. Royse, former county pauper attorney, secretary, and Kurt A. Pantzer attorney. Membership of supporters of all political creeds is solicited. “We advocate Judge Chamberlin’s re-election because of the importance of the office,” the organizers stated. "Marion county can not afford to lose such a jurist, the effect of wtyose influence has been to elevate the bench in the minds of the people and to add new dignity to law and its administration. “With eight of the county judgeships now held by members of the Democratic party, it is only reasonable and in harmony with the spirit of recent legislation that the judiciary should not be confined to one political faith, but that the honors and responsibilities should be shared by both."
Annuity Wins
BY MARTIN W. I.AMMERS American Central Life Inn. Cos. Annuities, long popular in England and other European countries where wealth is gauged in terms of income rather than of capital, have shown a great increase in popularity in the United Slates during recent years, particularly since the debacle of the stock market in 1929. For example, total payments made to purchase annuities in 1910 were $5,671,844: by 1920 the total had increased to only $10,721,183. Bearing in mind the market collapse three years ago, the figure for 1930 is startling—slo7,722,972 expended for annuities. Reasons for this remarkable swing to annuities by the investing public are fairly obvious: I 1. Life insurance has weathered 'the depression; it is continuing to | pay 100 cents on the dollar. 2. Investment in an annuity gives the absolute maximum of diversification; the person who buys even a SI,OOO annuity buys into the entire a list of the company’s holdings, literally thousands of investments with but a few cents in each, thus obtaining a degree of diversification impossible under any -other plan, nonspeculative investments. 3. Tire return or yield on the investment is especially attractive, ranging from 7.47 per cent at age 50 to 13.03 per cent at age 70, for male life annuities. 4. The income is definite, guaranteed for life; it can not be outlived, can not fluctuate, entails no attention nor worry; all the annuitant need do is to indorse the income checks. .
MID WEST PIONEERS AUTO CARRIER RISK Oldest Stock Company Here Taps Public Vehicle Field. Known as the oldest, stock insurance company west of the Alleghany mountains, the Mid West, chartered by special act of the Indiana legislature of 1832, is pioneering, it was said today, in the insurance of motor freight trucks, buses and taxicabs. Harry C. Baldwin, head of the agency of that name, Illinois building, is underwriting manager. Recent surveys by the concern show, according to D. O. Wilmeth, head of the Baldwin safety department, that current economic conditions have benefited the insurance of public motor carriers because of the better type of men w r ho have been employed as drivers. Woman Manager Dies Suddenly Miss Adah E. Bush, widely known as a -civic worker, treasurer of the Y. W. C. A. and president of the Women's Overseas Service League, who died suddenly of heart disease in her office in the Guaranty building a few days ago, recently had been appointed manager of the Indianapolis offices of the Provident Life and Accident Insurance Company of Chattanooga, Tenn. Her sister, Alice C. Bush, was named assistant manager; J. Edward La Mar, s claim adjuster, and L. S. Shaffr, head of the life insurance department of the agency. Opens W. A S. Office Here Joseph P. Day, for right years president and general manager of the Tri-State general agencies, Evansville, now is manager of the service branch here of the Western and Southern Indemnity and the Western and Southurn Fire Insurance Companies of Cincinnati.
