GANDHI READY TO START FAST Reduces Diet, Exercise for Hunger Protest. By f nilrd Pm a BOMBAY, Sept. 19.—The mahatma M. K. Gandhi already has begun to fast, preparing himself for the hunger strike he intends to undertake as a protest against Great Britain’s communal settlement. The nationalist leader, it' was learned today, has been gradually reducing his diet, and now is living on fruit and vegetables, with only an occasional glass of goat's milk. At the same time, he has been taking less exercise to conserve his energy for the coming ordeal. He is determined to go through with his hunger strike and will refuse to eat until death overtakes! him, despite the appeals of friends j that he should abandon the project. ■ Gandhi continues to spin each ; day and uses a small wheel spindle which does not require much strength.
