VISIONS HORSE RETURN More Economical Than Tractor, Says Purdue Expert. Return of Old Dobbin as the farmer's friend at plowing time was forecast by G. M. Frier, head of the Purdue university exhibit; “Farmers no longer think so much of the tractor. They have found horses and mules are much more convenient to use, because less cash money is necessary. They can raise most of the feed for animals, but must pay for gas and oil for tractors," Frier says.

EAST TO HEAD HOOVER OPEN HIS CAMPAIGN President to Make First Talk Either at N. Y. or Boston. Bn WASHINGTON. Sept. 8.-Presi-dent Hoover in all probability will deliver his first campaign address in the next few weeks either at Boston or New York. The President's plans, however. ; for the entire campaign remain un- ' certain. It was reiterated that he will not take a major part in the public side of the Republican party's efforts to re-elect him. Republican chieftains in New York and New England have brought considerable pressure to bear to get | him to open his brief part in the I campaign in that area. Senator James E. Watson (Rep.. Ind.) said after a lengthy conference with the President late Wednesday that he believed Mr. 1 Hoover will deliver at least three ■ speches in the east, one in the middle west, and one in the far west. It is doubted in ’administration i circles, however, that the chief ; executives will go beyond the Mississippi valley. He canceled his planned trip to open the Olympic ■ games at Los Angeles last month and to accept his nomination at

Palo Alto because of the pressure! of state affairs —and it is pointed out it hardly would be politic now to make the long journey solely to appeal to the far west electorate for support. Hence, it appears that Mr. Hoover's political appeals will be confined to speeches in the east and middle west.
