Professional Women’s Club Committees Named; Active Season Foreseen Forecast for an active season in the Indianapolis Business and Professional Women's Club is made in the announcement of committees for the coming year, by Miss Lucy E. Osborn, who will serve her second term as president of the club. The club will formally open with a meeting Thursday, Oct. 6. Meetings this year, as in the past, are to be held at the Woman's Department Club house, Seventeenth and Meridian streets.
Mythology Is Subject for Club Season Yearbooks announcing the program for the 1932-1933 season, have been Issued by the Multum-in-Parvo Literary Club. The study for the year will be “Greek and Roman Mythology.” The club will open its season formally with a president's day luncheon, Sept. 20, in the Italian room at the Lincoln. Mrs. Frank E. Weimer, who has been re-elected president, will be the hostess. The study outline for the year was arranged by Mrs. Ernest W. Fullenwider, Mrs. Gerald Hyde, and Mrs. Fred Kepner. Organized for Study Organized for the purpose ot studying literature, music and art, the club provides in each successive yearbook a well-chosen bibliography, in order that the members may have a wide field from which to choose material for their papers. The club will be entertained at luncheon, Dec. 20, by Mrs. William H. Polk, Mrs. William T. Randall and Mrs. Harold M. Trusler. Other special meetings scheduled are the celebration of the anniversary, Jan. 17, with a surprise program; the observation of Arbor day, April 18, and the annual guest day, May 16. The last meeting of the season will be held June 20. The club was organized in 1925 by Mrs. Emil H. Soufflot, who was its first president. It is fully federated and has eighteen active and three honorary members. Officers of Groups Other officers are: Mrs. Adolf Wagner, vice-president; Mrs. Earl Clampltt, secretary; Mrs. W. David Morton, treasurer; Mrs. Wagner and Mrs. Carl H. Irrgang, delegate and alternate to the Seventh district federation; Mrs. William W. Stanley and Mrs. E. Preston Jones, delegate and alternate to the state federation, and Mrs. Soufflot and Mrs. Clampitt. delegate and alternate to the Indianapolis Council of Women. An attractive feature of this club's yearbook is the permanent cover of black Morocco leather, bearing the name of the club, Multum-In-Parvo, and its emblem, the lamp of knowledge, embossed in gold. Each year the urograms are placed in this cover, which is the permanent property of each member, thus giving her a complete record of the club’s study. RECEPTION AND MUSICAL HELD Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Waldorf entertained Friday night with a musical and reception. Receiving with them was Mrs. L. A. Von Staden, assisted by Mrs. Harold B. Epler, Mrs. Gordon H. Haggard and Miss Elizabeth Hodges. The musical program was given by the Bernat trio, composed of Mrs. Marjorie Von Staden Bernat, cello: Saul Bernat, violin, and Mrs. Lucille Wagner, piano. Miss Louise Waldorf, violinist, played. Miss Waldorf will leave in two weeks for the Oklahoma State college for Women, where she is head of the violin department.
Auxiliary of Railroad Mail Group to Open Season Tuesday
President’s day will be observed by the Woman’s Auxiliary to the Railway Mail Association, at its first meeting of the season Tuesday afternoon, Sept. 6, at the Woman’s Department club house, Seventeenth and Meridian streets. Mrs. Jerauld McDermott, retiring president, and Mrs. Walter H. Vinzant, incoming president, will be the guests of honor. Other special guests will be the past presidents of the club, who include Mesdames E. B. Cole, E. E. Woolley, F. W. Dickhut, James Seward, W. P. Batcheldor, Claude H. Dill, Richard Brooks, Frank H. Small, Alden David and Clarence J. Finch. Mrs. Elmer Graber is in charge of the program, which will consist of music by a string trio composed of Miss Olive Kiler, violinist; Mrs. J. S. Reichart. cellist, and Miss Alberta Gaunt, harpist, and songs by Miss Frieda Heider. Following the program, dinner will be served. During the evening ‘ CABARET' TONIGHT AT AVALON CLUB Avalon Country Club members and their guests will be entertained at a “cabaret" dinner-bridge tonight at the clubhouse. Dinner will be served from 6:30 on, and bridge will begin at 8. Favors of corsages of summer flowers will be presented to the women. Among the special entertainment features will be the appearance of “The Dixie Baritone,’’ a radio performer. Women of the club recently presented the clubhouse with anew fan, which has been installed, and assures adequate ventilation. MRS. Business Club Chief Returns From Russia By Tim>'B Special NEW YORK, Aug. 27.—Anyone who goes to Russia looking for “cruel bearded Bolsheviks” might as well save his passage money, Mrs. Geline MacDonald Eowman of Richmond, Va., president of the National Federation of Business and Professional Women’s Club, said on her arrival from Europe. Accompanying her was a party of fifteen federation women who have completed the annual good will tour. They visited Germany, Poland, Russia, Finland and Scandinavia. “The Russia people are the kindest and most tolerant I have seen,” Mrs. Bowman said. “To my mind, the Russian masses are just beginning to have an opportunity to do what American masses did 100 years ago. They are beginnig to work out their political and social salvation. “Any visitor to Russia must be greatly impressed with their depth of conviction that their plan of government is right. The average American has much to learn from the average Russian about being enthusiastic about his job and not being afraid of hard work.”

Vincennes Girl Will Become Bride of City Man Sunday

Noted Criminal Expert to Give Two Talks Here Owen O. Wiard, Chicago, president of the International Association of Licensed Detectives, na-tionally-known criminologist, and social survey expert, will give two addresses at the Cadle tabernacle, Sunday afternoon and Monday night. He will speak Sunday afternoon on “The Conquest of Crime.’’ Monday night he will give an illustrated lecture on “Black Traffic in White Girls.” No admission will be charged at either meeting. Mr. Wiard will tell of his experiences as a detective and special investigator in crime, dealing with first-hand contacts with denizens of the ‘underworld as secret service man. He has more than 18,000 arrests to his credit during his career as a detective. He was one of the outstanding speakers in the Indianapolis “Big Meetings” series, sponsored by the Y. M. C. A., during the past four years. He has lectured throughout America, Canada and abroad. The Cadle choir, under the direction of Ray Harris, will sing, accompanied by Mrs. Marie Clark, pianist, and Curtis Davis, organist.

Miss Mary Frances Brockway Founder's day will be celebrated by Upsilon chapter, Sigma Phi Gamma sorority, with a formal dinner tonight in the' Lincoln room at the Lincoln. Miss Mary Frances Brockway is president of the chapter. Program for the dinner includes the reading of a history of the sorority, which is philanthropic and international in scope, by Miss Myla Smith, past international president, and a humorous prophecy by Miss Katherine Scott. Alfred Grennaman and Virgil Anderson will provide dinner music. The sorority colors, blue and gold, will be used in the table decorations, which will be summer flowers and lighted tapers. Booth Festival Will Be Held by Epworth Group A parade depicting the activities of the Indianapolis district of Epworth Leagues will feature the annual booth festival at Garfield park Sept. 10. Miss Alice Gentry is program chairman for the affair. Tke exhibit will be representative of the League’s contribution to the Methodist Episcopal hospital and its patients. Canned goods and linens, which have been donated by the forty local chapters, will be displayed on the floats entered by the chapters. The floats will be decorated to portray benefit affairs sponsored to raise money for the endowment fund for league members in the hospital. The parade will start from the Central Avenue M. E. church and end at Garfield park, where the picnic supper, games and a brief program will be held. Miss Gentry is third vice-presi-dent and social service chairman of the district. Miss Helen Michel is president. Miss Gentry is being assisted by Miss Jessie Adams and Glen Dragoo.Miss Hester Robbins is chairman of the supper and games at the park.
Visitor to City Is Entertained, by Mrs. Tilson Mrs. A. Jack Tilson, 925 Hanna avenue, entertained Thursday at her home w'ith a luncheon bridge, followed by swimming, in honor of Mrs. Lester Moorman, Pittsburgh, who is visiting in Indianapolis. An informal program was presented, including songs by Mrs. H. G. Hennessey, accompanied by Mrs. Tilson, and piano numbers by Miss Myrta Tilson. Summer flowers were used in decorating. Guests with Mrs. Moorman and Mrs. Hennessey were Mesdames James Martin, Roy B. Stebbins, Benjamin H. Rowell, James A. Andrus and William Sholtz.
SIOO,OOO REACHED IN FUND DRIVE The SIOO,OOO mark in the million dollar goal foundation fund of the General Federation of Women's clubs has been reached, according to announcement at the biennial meeting. The fund is accumulated from contributions of $2.50. given by club members over a period of three years, half going to the general federation and half to their state. GREENCASTLE GIRL MARRIES CITY MAN Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Toney of Greencastle announce the marriage of their daughter. Miss Irene Toney, to William A. Stephenson, son of Mr. and Mrs. A. P. Stephenson, 925 Fairfield avenue. The wedding took place May 13 at Newport. Mrs. Stephenson is a graduate of the Methodist hospital training school for nurses.
