FILM OF NEWLY wEDS WILL BE HELD OVER Love Affairs of Janet and Charles Draw Record-Breaking Crowds of Men and Women to the Apollo. JANET GAYNOR and Charles Farrell, two of the screen's most celebrated sweethearts, according to their many admirers, and heralded by many as the king and queen of the movies, are continuing for the second week at the Apollo in ,‘The First Year.” the Fox adaptation of the successful stage farce of the same name, by Frank Craven. The sweethearts are seen as living the glad days and the sad ones of newlyweds, which include a proposal, a wedding shower, a bachelor dinner, and the wedding itself, preceding the hectic ups and downs during the first twelve months of “The First Year.” This picturization of the Frank Craven hit enlists the services of some widely-known character ac-
tors and actresses. Among them are Dudley Digges, as the kindly bachelor uncle of Janet, whose sage advice enables the pair of newlyweds to we§ther their marital storms. Minna Gombell is seen as the wise-cracking wife of a successful business man; Leila Bennett has the role of Hattie, the maid who almost drives Janet into hysterics and whose gin enables Charlie to forget his •many worries. George Meeker is seen as the village braggart and suitor for Janet's affections. “The First Year” presents Miss Gaynor and* Farrpll in their first attempt at comedy. The direction was supervised by William K. Howard. who gave the screen ‘The Trial of Vivienne Ware" and "Transatlantic.” Short subjects in-
