The manner in which Miss Prigge and Miss Polikowski, inseparable friends for years, came to their deaths remained a mystery as deep as why their bodies were found in the river and only were partly clad. Home-Loving Type They were attractive girls, homeloving, but engaging in the typical activities of their rural community. They had the usual "dates,” but were not known to favor any particular young men. The two with whom they went riding before their deaths were believed to be strangers. Coroner A. G. Schleicher reported that he found no v *>unds or bruises on the bodies of the two girls, but was convinced because water was absent from the lungs that they were not drowned. Miss Polikowski had agreed Tuesday to get Miss Prigge and go riding with the two men. The men picked her up at her lodging place at Rochester and then called at the Prigge farm home. Miss Prigge joined them and they went crosscountry to Millville, where the Prigge girl was recognized. She formerly lived in that town. Body Partly Clad Neither girl was seen alive after that. At 5:30 p. m. Wednesday, a party of bathers discovered Miss Prigge’s body clad only in a brassiere and step-ins, floating in Ryan’s bay, a favorite swimming spot. Coroner Schleicher learned that Miss Prigge had been with her chum and started anew search. Searchers found Miss Polikowski’s body in the water about a half mile from the place where Miss Prigge’s body was found. Miss Prigge’s clothes were found in the brush further upstream. "Neither of the girls had been dead for more than twelve hours,” Bauers said. "There were no bruises or other wounds on them. We have sent their stomachs to Rochester for an examination to learn whether they had been poisoned. MERCHANT COP LEAVES TRAIL OF INJURED Prey Leaps Through Window; And in Chase Hurts Foot. Making his rounds Thursday night, Jack Pierce, 715 Tippecanoe street, merchant policeman, left a trail of injured persons in his wake, but he was unscathed by the misfortunes overtaking the others. Troy Williams, 39, of 336 North Blackford street, jumped through a large plate glass window and fell over an iron fence at a vacant house, 712 West New York street, attempting to flee from Pierce, who had found him in the house. Williams was taken to the city hospital for treatment of lacerations, before being slated at police headquarters for malicious trespass and vagrancy. Roy Chatham, 28. of 704 West New York street, is nursing an injured right foot because he aided Pierce in the chase of Williams. Chatham, too, fell over a fence, and was taken to the city hospital for treatment and returned to his home.

MORRISSEY ON MYSTERY TRIP; PROBEJORMANT Chief Leaves No Orders on Continuation of Quiz; Destination Secret. Chief Mike Morrisey’s office at I headquarters is vacant today. And the chief either is spending a few days in the north part of the j country as “part of his vacation” or “just a few days off, but not his regular vacation.” Morrissey has been attempting to take a vacation for several weeks, his aids say. But one thing after another had blocked his plans. The last was the hunger march of the unemployed Tuesday at the state house.’ ’ ’ After that, though, Morrissey disappeared. Secretaries say they know not where he is, while other police officials say he is in Wisconsin or Minnesota and will return Monday or Tuesday. And while he is gone, the investigation into the alleged fake barbecue stand raid by a police sergeant is dormant. Morrissey, it is known, left no instructions for continuance of the probe. The last official action in the case was when Morrissey conferred with federal officials early this week. Detectives assigned to the case have filed with him their report on occurrences two weeks ago at
