STATE PRINTING CONTRACT QUIZ TO START SOON Committee Is Appointed to Conduct Probe: Fifield to Be Called. Special committee of the house of representatives appointed today to probe the "gravely peculiar'’ circumstances surrounding awarding of the $82,400 contract to print automobile drivers’ license certificates, will begin to function immediately, it was announced. Because of the presence in the city of Otto G. Fifield of Crown Point, secretary of state in 1929 when the contract was awarded to Ohlhaver & Burkhart, Aurora (111.) firm, he will be the first witness called. flight on Committee The probe committee of eight is composed of five Democrats and three Republicans. The former are: Representatives Herbert P. Kenney of New Albany, chairman; Albert Walsman, Indianapolis; Fred Galloway, Indianapolis, sponsor of the probQ and author of the resolution creating the. committee; Gerritt Bates, Indianapolis, and William E. Wilson of Greenfield. The Republicans are: Thad S. Adams of Danville, William S. Coleman of Carthage and Oliver W. McGaughey of Vcedersburg. Fifield conferred with AttorneyGeneral James M. Ogden regarding the information the latter had given Galloway. Pointed Out Power "I told Fifield that I merely had informed Galloway that the house and its committee had the power to summon witnesses and take testimony, I did not pass upon the merits of the investigation, which was what particularly interested the former secretary of state," Ogden said. The contract has been probed by Illinois and Indiana federal authorities, seeking income tax information. The printing was done by the Haywood Printing Company, Lafayette. The firm received SIO,OOO of the contract price, it is charged. A sun spot recently appearing on the face of that body is 22,000 miles in diameter, large enough to engulf the earth.

For about five minutes each day the girl is removed to a sleeping porch at the home where she lives with her mother and sister and the latter’s husband. But Dr. Eugene Traut still hopes that the cure for the strange malady lies in the girl’s own blood stream. He has administered serum derived from her blood after succeeding in isolating the germ causing the illness. It w’as the first time the bacillus had been isolated in a living person. and the girl's amazing vitality made the medical feat possible. The plea, “Pat, open your eyes for your mother,” brought a flutter of Miss Maguire's eyelids, but her comatose trance was unbroken. She made other slight motions during the 148 days of her illness, but so far has shown no signs of recovery.
