TRAGEDY ENDS ROMANCE-FEUD OF DLINO TRIO Sightless Husband Accused by One-Eyed Mate of Killing Lover. ‘in l'nltr.4 Vrrnu CHICAGO. July B.—Out of the half-world of the blind today emerged a familiar story in a macabre setting—a triangle in which tne actors were two sightless beggars and a one-eyed woman whom both loved. Staring at bars he could not see Richard Roberts, 57, sat in a cell in the county jail. Police charged him with the death of Harry Gruber 35, a second blind beggar. The twisted romance that led to death for one man and charges of suspicion of murder for the other was revealed by Mrs. Mary Roberts, who left her husband two years ago to live with Gruber. Found at Last Roberta and Gruber had met in the freemasory of those who live by the tin cup and the tapping cane. Occasionally they had traveled together along the pavement seeking alms. The younger man was welcomed Into the Roberts home. The triangle developed. Soon Mrs. Roberts and Gruber, after a groping courtship, fled and for two years lived together secure in the belief the blind husband could not find them. Then on the morning of July Fourth, they heard the tap-tap of a blind man’s cane on the stairway leading to their apartment. Searching through the darkness the husband with aid from his blind comrades had located his wife. Police Probe Story “He pleaded with me to come back to him,” said Mrs. Roberts. “But I told him I would not go. Finally he went away. The next morning he came back again and told me to stay outside while he talked to Harry.” What happened in the interview of the two blind men is not known, j But a few minutes later, Mrs. Rob- i erts told police, her husband sum- i bled past her and on down the street without a word. She went inside. Gruber lay on the floor, blood gushing from his head. At the hospital it was found his skull was fractured. When the blind man died Wednesday, Mrs. Roberts went to police with her weird story. Roberts, found living with another blind man, was arrested and an investi- I gation of the woman’s story ordered.

Arthur Jordan Sued by Widow; Wants Million (Continued from Page One) a resident of the city about eight years ago and for a time operated a rooming house. Her first husband, a Dr. Cooley of Chicago, was divorced, and Melter, the second husband, died five years ago. Jordan is divorced from Mrs. Rose Alba Jordan, who became his wife in 1875. They have two daughters, Mrs. O. B. lies, 4400 North Meridian street, and Mrs. John S. Kittle, Kessler boulevard. In 1927, Jordan endeavored to have Mrs. lies and her husband evicted from the home at the Meridian street address through a sheriff’s sale of the property to satisfy a judgment for $49,976 against the daughter, but her husband paid the amount in time to prevent the sale. 1 Jordan contributed $1,000,000 to Butler university in the early stages of its transition to the Fairview campus from the old Irvington site. At the Spink-Arms, where Jordan lives, it was said today he was in New York and business associates were unable to give the names of any attorneys who could comment on the suit. The suit asks that a restraining order be issued to prevent Jordan from transferring any of his property or funds.
