FOUR ARE SHOT IN BANDIT RAID ON ROADHOUSE Man Killed; Woman Near Death: Fashionable Crowd Periled. My United Press CHICAGO, June 16— Four persons, Including a woman, were wounded, one of them fatally, in an attempted holdup of the Dells, fashionable roadhouse, today. A few hours later, Fred Pacelli, one of the victims, died of his wounds in a hospital. The bandits were beaten off after a gun battle in the presence of 400 patrons clad in evening clothes. Two of the wounded were guests and two were members of the bandit trio. The wounded were Mrs. Marjorie Bruce, 28, condition critical; Roy Marshan, 35 said by police to be the driver of the bandit car. and a second bandit who escaped. The bandits, armed with shotguns, invaded the crowded roadhouse as more than two hundred couples were dancing to the music of Gus Arnheim’s orchestra. Guards opened fire on the gunmen as they passed the ballroom. Fleeing without obtaining any loot, the gunmen were met at their car by a police squad, which continued the battle.

BARRYMORE MOVIE TO HAVE PREMIERE ‘States Attorney’ ,With an Important Cast, Including Mary Duncan, Will Open Tonight at the Circle. RKO Radies latest production. “States Attorney," starring John Barrymore, will open tonight at the Circle theater with a premiere starting at 9:30. Heading the array of talent gathered together in support of Barrymore are a number of stars well known to the world of screen fans. Among them are William Boyd, Jill Esmond. Mary Duncan, Helen Twelvetrees, Oscar Apfel, Ralph Ince, Blanche Frederici, Leon Waycoff, Paul Hurst. Albert Conti, and Frederick Burton. / An absorbing tale of a man's love conflicting with his soaring ambi-

tions, “States Attorney" unfolds its action against the colorful background of a great American city. The central figure, played by Barrymore, is a brilliant, care-free attorney who turns from defending the underworld to prosecuting it to further his own ambitions. Gay night clubs, richly furnished apartments, law offices, the prize ring, speakeasies, where the vengeance of the underworld strikes stealthily, and courtrooms where men and women stand trial for their lives, are among the scenes which composed the film. Taking their material from the lurid files of fact and changing it to suit the conditions of their plot, Louis Stevens, Gene Fowler, a.nd Rowland Brown wrote the story for “States Attorney." George Archainbaud, who directed RKO's aviation hit, “The Lost Squadron," megaphoned the picture.

Clad in scarlet military coat, Commander Evangeline Booth, aggressive leader of the Salvation Army, attacked the forces of evil in an address before hundreds of Indianapolis citizens Wednesday night on the Monument Circle. Her party was to visit Lafayette. Lebanon, Crawfordsville, and Danville, 111., today. Commander Booth is the fourth daughter of the late William Booth, founder of the Salvation Army. With promise that a better world awaits the faithful, she paid tribute to the late Thomas R. Marshall, Hoosier Vice-President of the United States.
