CALLS ON POLICE TO CLEAR UP LINDY CASE Leader of Chiefs Assails Action of Press During Probe. By United Press PORTLAND, Ore., June 14.—The Lindbergh kidnaping and the ne£d for co-operation between police and press became keynote problems before the thirty-ninth annual convention of the International Association of Chiefs of Police today. Hugh D. Harper Colorado Springs, Colo., president of the association, discussed the problems in his annual report. Deploring the fact that every movement of investigators was printed by the press, and that inexperienced investigators and criminals were dominating factors in the Lindbergh case. Chief Harper called on the police of America to solve that crime. “The law enforcement officers of this nation have one piece of unfinished business which must be cleared up, and that is the kidnaping of Charles A. Lindbergh Jr.,” he said. CONGRESS MAY END DEADLOCK Wants Quick Senate Action on Garner Bill. By Bcripp*-ff award Newspaper Alliance WASHINGTON, June 14.—An attempt to break the deadlock between house and senate, which is delaying passage of all relief bills, will be mad® in the senate today. The senate banking and currency committee will be asked by Senator Robert Wagner (Dem., N. Y.) to report the Garner public works bill. If this is done the house banking and currency committee will then consider quick action on the Wagner $300,000,000 hunger relief bill. When the senate begins consideration of the Garner bill on the floor, Wagner will seek to have the text of his program inserted in place of the Garner program, and the house understands this. But such procedure is necessary in order that the Garner bill may go to conference with whatever plan the senate adopts. If the Garner bill were not sent to conference, and considered in framing a compromise measure, the Democratic leadership of the house could easily prevent passage of all relief legislation. The situation is complicated in the senate by insistence of Republican administration men that the construction bill authorize the Reconstruction Finance Corporation to make loans to private industries for construction in connection with their businesses.
