WORLD NEEDS NEW LEADERS, SENIORS TOLD All Sense of Values Lost, Asserts Dr. Zizoo to Butler Graduates. Plea for renewal of faith in institutions of mankind was made at commencement exercises today at Butler university by Dr Joseph R. Sizoo of Washington. Speaking in Butler field house before a massed audience of seniors, faculty members, families and guests, Dr. Sizoo sounded a call for new leadership to restore the world's “lost sense of value ” Degrees were conferred by Dr. Walter Scott Athearn, president, after a concert by the university band under direction of J. B. Vandaworker, conductor. A grand march of the senior class and faculty members, led by President Athearn, preceded invocation by Dr. Edwin H. Kistler, pastor of Fairview Presbyterian church. Music was provided by the Australian quartet of the college ot religion, members of which are Herbert Wilson, Victor Griffin, William J. Moore and Richard Williams. Lost Fair in Society “The attitude of lost confidence is found not only beyond the seas, but also within our very borders,” said Dr. Sizoo. ‘“We have lost faith in human society and its institutions. “It is not easy to be a public servant of the hour. Not that any great wrongs have been done; not for any outstanding betrayal ol public trust; it is simply the temper and tone of the age. Everywhere man is losing faith. "The world has many architects but few builders; it has many who tell us what is wrong. “Democracy is in a pitiful need of rebirth of individuality. We are in danger of crowd-mindedness. There are too many who surrender their convictions, reef their sails and compromise their positions for the sake of the multitude. He who never loses sight of his individuality and remains true to his convictions, though the heavens fall, will make his contribution to his age." None Can Stand Alone “The person who profits from his employes in good times owes them some semblance of security against lean times,” declared Bishop Edgar Blake of the Methodist Episcopal church, in his baccalaureate address before the senior class Sunday afternoon in the fieldhouse. “Every man’s moral duty to his fellows is to share with them the profits they have helped him accumulate,” he said. “No self-made -man exists today. “Every man's success is due largely to others. Just ‘Pals’ By United Press NEW YORK. June 13.—Mayor James J. Walker and Senator Samuel H. 'Tofstadter, chairman of the legislative committee, which investigated the mayor’s conduct in office, shook hands Sunday night in their first meeting since Walker was questioned. When the mayor seated himself at the dais, during a college dinner, Senator Hofstadter left his table and addressed Walker. “Asa member of the college I have come to pay my . respects,” Senator Hofstadter said. “All right, Sam, I appreciate it,” replied the mayor.

‘IT'S OALLOWS FOR ME, SURE,' SAYS KIDNAPER Admits Part in Holding of Mrs. Nell Donnelly at Kansas City. By United Press PHILADELPHIA. June 13.—Expecting to be sentenced to death on the gallows, Martin Deputy, onetime steam shovel operator left Philadelphia by automobile today for Kansas City, where he will be tried for the kidnaping of Mrs. Nell Donnelly last December. He arrived in Philadelphia aboard a freighter from South Africa where he was arrested Sunday night and after confessing his part in the kidnaping, spent the night in the city jail. Deputy, 39, also known as Marshall Depew, was handcuffed to detective R. K. Coyle of Kansas City. Detective T. J. Higgins rode in the front seat of the car, which was followed by another machine bearing other police officials. The automobile trip is expected to take about three days. “I did lot. I know I am going to get the noose, but the running away and the hounding by police was a thousand times worse than any noose can be. I'm glad it’s over.” Talks Frankly of Part That was the confession Kansas City and Philadelphia authorities said Deputy made to them Sunday night. Deputy talked frankly of his part in the kidnaping of Mrs. Donnelly. She was held captive for several days, and then released without payment of $75,000 ransom demanded. But he refused to name any members of the gang of seven men and one woman, excepting Lacy Browning of Holliday, Kan, Browning is one of four men now under arrest in Kansas City, who signed a confession implicating Deputy. Others are Paul Scheldt, in whose home Mrs. Donnelly was held captive, and Charles Mele. Ethel Depew, wife of Deputy, also is under arrest. Thre Others Sought Three other members of the gang are being sought, two of whom are believed to be Philadelphians. Kansas City authorities hold Joe Doe warrants for their arrest. Deputy’s return climaxed months of investigation and search led through half a dozen states to South Africa. Finally, he was arrested at Johannesburg and May 13 started the return trip. The intensity of the hunt was due to former United States Senator James A. Reed, Mrs. Donnelly’s friend and personal counsel.
