LESLIE URGED TO PLAY PART OF EXECUTIVE Jacob Weiss Sounds Call for Governor to Act in Emergency. With his call issued lor a special legislative session July 7. in an attempt to bring about remedial tax legislation. Governor Harry G Leslie today was called upon by one member of thiP Marion county assembly group to act the part of an executive “ In a statement. Jacob Weiss, attorney and Democratic representative, who has been nominated for senator, declared: ' We hope now that the Governor has recognized an emergency and will act the part of an executive and truly recommend a program to cope specifically with the emergency and offer workable suggestions for tax relief and economy." Weiss attacked Leslie for his action at the last regular session Slaps at Governor "We wonder whether hr will follow his precedent established in his message to the 1931 assembly bannering mere platitudes and sweetsounding phrares without any specific recommendations for tax relief or economy legislation " Weiss said. Representative Clyde Karrcr, Democrat, said he will introduce a measure for abolition of the public service commission, "at a saving of $200,000 yearly." and the Industrial board * He attacked the Industrial board because "It never has been fair to the working people" and asserted a saving of SOB,OOO would be effected. Representative Fred S Galloway. Democrat, said he intended to introduce an unemployment insurance bil] in the extraordinary session. His announcement followed reports that many legislators would introduce, in the house, bills which failed in 1931. Galloway's proposal will be that a luxury tax be levied and that employers supply 50 per cent of the proposed 65 per cent unemployment insurance, while employed persons pay a small percentage to the genera] fund Whatever amount remains to make up the 65 per cent of the un-I employed workers’ pay would be met by the state, under Galloway's plan.
