Hari” and “Strangers May Kiss.” directed the new Garbo film and is said to have mounted the picture with a wealth of beautiful settings and natural backgrounds. William Daniels, who has photographed all of Garbo's picture*, again was behind the camera and the star s costumes were designed by Gilbert Adrian, who has achieved an enviable reputation for his ability to create striking gowns for the exotic Swedish actress. In “As You Desire Me.” Garbo plays the role of a Budapest case entertainer whose remarkable resemblance to a woman believed to be dead brings about an amazing dramatic conflict. Melvyn Douglas, who played opposite Gloria Swanson in “Tonight or Never,” has the leading male role as the Italian nobleman. Count Bruno, who accepts Zara, the case singer, as the wife whom he believed to have been killed by invaders during the World war. The renowned character actor. Erich Von Stroheim, enacts the role of Salter, a malignant novelist, who seeks to prevent Zara from wresting free of his lecherous grasp. An important role Is also Ailed by Owen Moore as the man who discovers Zara in the case and causes her to masquerade as another man's wife. C., said to be rich in romance and abounding in thrills, is appearing currently on the screen of the Apollo theater, where it will remain through Thursday, next. Containing the elements of mystery, intrigue and jealousy, the new ] film relates the story of two men whose friendship was ironclad until both fell in love with the same girl. It is then that one of the men sets out to destroy the other by sending him to his death. Warner Baxter, recently seen in "Amateur Daddy” and remembered for his portrayals in “Daddy Long Legs.” appears in the leading role, that of society patron, sportman and later a member of the diplomatic service. And as the lover of the beautiful heroine, Baxter is said to be sincere and convincing. Karen Morley, little known on the screen until seen in “Arsene Lupin” with John and Lionel Barrymore, plays the leading feminine role as the young woman who averts an international scandal, but gets herself into serious trouble. Conway Tearle, who recently returned to the screen after a vacation spent on the stage, also has one of the featured roles. Others in the cast are Lillian Bond, Alan Mowbray. Leni Stengel. The screen program is headed by the new Paramount special production, entitled “Forgotten Commandments.” The WLW all-star revue contains the best of the available acts and talent now broadcasting regularly at radio station WLW in Cincinnati, O. Among the many stars from the “nation's station" who appear In person assembled in one big stage show are Hink and Dink, blackface comics; Sidney Ten Eyck and Dave Roberts with the Doodlesockers, Old Man Sunshine and his toy band, Hal and Huss. Murray Horton and his band; the Threesome, and others. In addition, a chorus of twelve girls known as the Newell Goodrich Radio Rockets has been brought to the Indiana from St. Louis to augment the stage revue. The WLW All-star Revue has been staged and produced under the personal supervision of B. V. Sturdivant, district manager of the Skouras-Publix theaters. “Forgotten Commandments," the screen attraction on the same program. has as a distinguishing feature a spectacular episode from the Cecil B. De Mille epic—“ The Ten Commandments.” The story of the new picture, Forgotten Commandments,” has Its setting laid in present-day Russia. It is chiefly concerned with the way in which- the men and women of that country react to the new social system. Sari Maritza, sensational European actress, makes her American screen debut -in “Forgotten Commandments” in a leading feminine role. Gene Raymond, who came to the fore in “Ladies of the Big House," is the chief masculine star in the film. Irving Pichel and Marguerite Churchill have other roles of importance.

Edmund Goulding, who last directed “Grand Hotel” will direct Marlon Davies in her next Metro-Goldwyn-Maver starring picture, “Good Time Girl.” This Is an original screen story by Frances Marion, with dialogue by Anita Loos. Goulding has directed such films as “The Trespasser,” "Reaching for th. Moon” and “Night Angel." Frances Marion has contributed to the screen many original screen stories, including "The Big House,” “The Champ” and “Emma.” Mar'-m Davies’ latest release is "Polly of the Circus.” Her most recent screen roles were in “The Bachelor Father,” “It’s a Wise Child” and “Five and Ten.’

THE season of the Berkell Players at Keith’s theater will be brought I to a close with the final performance tonight of Ferenc Molnar’s new comedy, ‘‘The Good Fairy.” From the present indications Indianapolis will be without legitimate theatrical fare during the summer months, but Charles Berkell states that his company will return for the fall and winter season, opening the

latter part of August. Several factors enter into Berkell's decision to close at this time, rather than to venture Into the summer. Chief among them is the admitted scarcity of new plays suitable for presentation by dramatic stock companies, of which there are now but thirty operating throughout the country. The play situation, in Berkell’s opinion, will be considerably relieved by the time the new season rolls around, for the reason ‘ that many good plays, recently produced in New York but not yet released to stock companies will then be available, as will a portion of the plays that will be staged in the metropolis during the summer. Berkell's company opened at Keith's last December and is closing the season on Inis twenty-sec-ond w r eek. When It is recalled that Arthur Casey company operated in Indianapolis for twenty-four weeks last summer, it will be seen that within a year the city has had forty-six weeks of dramatic stock entertainment, serving to exhaust a large crop of the available plays of recent vintage. “I have faith in the future of the dramatic stock branch of theatricals, and I look forward with pleasure to returning to Indianapolis, confident in the belief that this city is a good field, and that my company will be given satisfactory support by the great number of Indianapolis people who still find their chief recreation in the legitimate theater,” Berkell states. a a a MISS ADELAIDE HALL, the dusky daughter of Harlem, better known to radio listeners as “The Crooning Blackbird,” is announced as the headliner for the Lyric week of June 4. Miss Hall comes direct from a season of triumph in New York's famous Cotton Club and brings with her two corking colored musicians who preside at the piano during her act. Adelaide Hall has toured in vaudeville in America and Europe for many years and has also been featured in many colored shows, including “Browm Buddies” and “The Blackbirds.” Both shows featured Bill Robinson. The Lyric management announces two headliner attractions for the week beginning Saturday, June 11. It will be home-coming week for the popular Hoosier radio stars. Jim and Walt. Jim and Walt, started their radio career over WFBM in this city some years ago and also made their stage debut on the Lyric stage in 1929. It was this stage date that paved the way for their unusual good fortune in securing an audition and final contract from the Crosley Radio Corporation in Cincinnati. Jim and Walt promise their local listeners a brand new program of songs and fun on their return to this city. On this same bill will be a second feature. Kalbere of the Lyric has contracted Miss Francis Dale, popular stock leading lady and now with the Berkell Players at Keith’s. Miss Dale will present a one act comedy drama in which she has played before in Eastern vaudeville theaters. Billy Purl and His 30-People-Unit Vaudeville Revue Tops Speedway Race Week Bill at Lyric Theater, Starting Today. SPEEDWAY race visitors and local theater-goers will find a special program of stage and screen entertainment awaiting them at the Lyric starting today. Billy Purl, rotund comedian and his thirty people unit* revue heads the stage show which also includes other RKO vaudeville acts. Charles Murray and George Sidney are co-starred in the new Universal feature comedy, “Cohens and Kellys in Hollywood.” Billy Purl has long been a favorite with local theater-goers and has usually given them a first rate show. In this unit revue are Julian Stanley and his Recording Orchestra of ten musical entertainers; the Haxton

Sisters, musical comedy dancing stars; Jimmy Harvey, another stepping feature; Jules Jenkins Trio, presentation favorites; Mickey McGlynn, eccentric comedian; Marie Sweet, blues singer; “Rubber Legs” Ted Stanley; Two Southern Misses, harmony singers, and the Modernettes, a beauty chorus of eight singing and dancing girls. A complete scenic and electrical production is said to be another feature of the Purl show. Other RKO vaudeville acts, which augment the headliner attraction include William Sully and Genevieve Houghton in their revue for two with Jessie Colbert. Sully has been featured in many Broadway shows, including “New Moon” and “Good News." Jean and Helen are two redheaded girls with musical ability. They have chosen the billing of “The Copperheads.” The girls have a vaisdeville specialty of double piano music, harmony singing and instrumental playing. Heras and Wallace open the show with comedy musical specialties and acrobatics.
