JUDGE OFFERS PROTECTION IN MINE DISTRICT Kentuckian Will Accompany Civil Liberties Group to Coal Fields. • V T ***** Prst LONDON. Kv. Mar 13. An 81-year-old Kentucky Judge promised to accompany the American Civil Liberties investigating party into Bell and Harlan county mine flleds to inaure their safety. He made the promise while considering and discussing the Investigators' plea for an injunction which would restrain officials from Interfering with the investigation by strangers. Violence had been feared. The offer of Judgp A. M. J. Cochran, thirty-one years a United States district judge, a reputed authority on the life of Christ, and one whose prestige in the mine fields rated among the highest, probably will be accepted as guaranteeing more safety to the visitors than would be assured by an Injunction. “I’ll go with them,” Judge Cochran said, *T think it will keep the visitor* on their foes, and they’ll b> more careful.” "I'm perfectly satisfied to have the judge accompany us,” Arthur Oarfleld Havs, roune! for th* Civil Liberties Union and leader of that group said.
