'BACK TO FARM' MOVE HALTED; NAB CHILDREN Police Hold Three Chicago Youngsters Bound to Dugger. A 'bark U> the coir’ movement ©f three Chicago children was halted today by police, and a* a result the detention home has three more Inmates. The children are Betty Wads, 13; fcer brother John. 12. and their cousin. Corrine Boder. 14. all of 6401 Btewart street. Chicago. After Captain Jesse McMurtry had been advised by residents of the 2500 block West Washington street that the children were trying to "thumb" automobile rides, he dispatched an automobile squad to the locality and the children were brought to headquarters. Betty, attired in overalls, was the Spokesman. "You see. captain. John and I vant to get to Dugger. Ind., where our daddy. Orville Woods, lives on a farm with grandpa." she said. *'Wc started from Chicago yesterday morning and hitch-hiked into Indianapolis. We intend to go from here to Terre Haut and then to Dugger.” After the explanation. Betty glanced around. "Is this a police station?” she •sked. Informed that it was, the girl began crying. L don't want to stay in anv police stations.” she said. McMurtry sent the children to the deetntion home, where they will be care dfor until Woods is advised. The children explained they had been living with an aunt in Chicago, but decided they wanted to go back to the farm.

'SICK' MAN ARRESTED Charge Kiser Operated a ‘Hospital Racket.’ Charged with operating a hospital racket, Ed Kiser. 27. is held by police today following his arrest Wednesday at St. Francis hospital, where it is said he had been feigning illness for several days. Detectives charge Kiser would become a patient in a hospital and immediately endeavor to form an acquaintance with other patients, especially those with relatives living in other cities. After leaving hospitals, it is charged. Kiser would visit cities where the relatives resided, and approach them with a plea that they cash worthless checks for him. mentioning that he knew their kin while he was in hospitals. Authorities say Kiser, who has used the aliases of Stanhope and Heckman, has been arrested as a suspicious character in New Haven, Conn., Portland, Ore., and Manawa, Wis. plan taxes which will cost the newspapers of the country, according to estimates by experts, a million dollars a year. These taxes are levied on telephone and telegraph messages, cablegrams and radiograms and on wires used in the transmission of news. The taxes on telephone messages range from 10 to 20 cents per message. On telegrams the tax will be 5 per cent of the tolls. The tax on radiograms and cablegrams is 10 cents for each message. On wires used for news transmission, the tax will be 5 per cent of charges paid.
