Children Need Every Chance for Home Play P!ay Li an essential of child life and should be provided easily and adequately. Many children live far from public playgrounds and must depend on their or their neighbors’ backyards. This, or the street, and the street is far from suitable. Regular playground equipment is expensive, but it is possible for interested parents to provide substitutes which are at the same time both practical and economical. Planks and sawhorses, neither of too heavy a lumber, may be improvised into all sorts of devices by the children, especially if there are two or three large wooden boxes to serve as houses, forts and office buildings. See-saws may be made from the material mentioned, also slides, bridges, boats and a dozen othei things. That may be left to the children’s devices. A playground, one large enough for two or three youngsters to get inside of, always is a source of constant delight. Smaller boxes may be used as furniture, desks and housekeeping toys. They will amuse themselves healthily by the hour with this equipment, emulating the daily affairs in the lives of adults. DON'T ‘SHOWER ON' TALCUM POWDER If the skin is carefully dried after the baby's bath there will be little need of talcum powder, but a little powder may be used in the creases and folds of skin, under the arms and around the buttocks. It should be applied only after the skin is dry. Avoid too much powder, as it may cake and cause irritation. If the baby tends to "chafe” or have a "diaper rash,” oil is better than powder. Mineral oil applied with absorbent cotton may be used instead of powder.

Pure Milk Cuts Number of Oolitic Deaths Here
The largst single cause of mortality among infants between the ages of 1 and 2 is diarrhea and enteritis, commonly called "colitis.” It is in this disease that parents must look for the effects of improperly handled milk in so far as it is reflected in death of the child. Prior to 1918. dirty milk” would have been an appropriate epitaph for the tombstone of innumerable infants placed to rest in Indianapolis cemeteries. Since that time, a great decrease in the colitis death rate has accompanied that campaign of the department of health in cleaning up the city milk supply. The significance of this decrease in deaths from colitis is illustrated when it is considered and realized that the change which has been wrought is duly responsible for hundreds of children in this city reaching their second birthday since 1918. who, otherwise, would have died before this age had the old condition of public health affairs continued to prevail. Official public health control of this city's milk supply has removed it for the present at least as
