Record of Bir t h Is Valuable The greatest gilt that lies within our power to confer upon our offspring is life-long good health. But there is a "second greatest ’ birthday gift which is the duty of )>arents to convey—a birth certificate. Its importance often is overlooked by parents. This second greatest gift is priceless throughout life and In it lies the child's irrevocable proof of: 1 His or her right to property inheritance. 2 Right to work, to marry, to receive the protection of many laws such as those safeguarding children. 3. Right to citizenship, to vote, hold office, travel under protection of an American passport or enter the service of his country. Those and many other rights are his if he is able to furnish tho proof he is entitled to them, and in many of them only the birth certificate transcript holds his right to them. A transcript of birth registration is needed as proof of age to determine the validity of a contract entered into by an alleged minor; as evidence of legal age to marry; to establish irresponsibility of children under a certain age as to crime. Many letters are received daily from various parts of the country and many foreign countries requesting certified copies of birth records of children born in Indianapolis. The certificate is invaluable, both to the child and to his country—often to the parents. Fhysicians often neglect to furnish the birth certificate and it Is the duty of parents to see that each new-born baby is equipped with this valuable proof to his rights. Parents may phone or call at city hall, and without cost, learn if their children's birth certificates are on record.

Says Mouthful

With a mouthful of molars at the tender age of 18 months, Rita Jean McDonald of Kansas City, above, claims the bicuspid championship of the world. She challenges the claim of Paul Ristow Jr., of Los Angeles, who boasted a full set of teeth at 20 months. Notice that disconcerted expression? Cameraman just swiped Rita's apple. Give Baby Water Warm or cool water may be offered to the baby, really should be offered betwen meals. Babies suffer from thirst just as do adults and like adults, drink and need more water in warm weather than in cool. Sugar should not be added to the water. If the baby does not care to drink, it is because it probably is getting enough water with meals. Guard Against Pins While it is good discipline to let the baby cry himself to sleep, parents should be sure that there are no pins sticking him or other things making him uncomfortable. A good cry is excellent exercise for a healthy baby.
