Pestilence.... Famine—These are not the ONLY calamities in life .... yet we seem to need them to bring us into the kind of a bond of fellowship that binds! Old Man Depression charges the ranks of the Four Horsemen and out-ranks them all and yet we dumbly take the “sock on the chin” just because it didn’t completely knock us out and REFUSE to read the inevitable handwriting on the wall! MUST we be stricken to earth by enemy invaders before we realize that the WAR IS ON? If anyone in Indianapolis doesn’t think that war must be declared—OPENLY DECLARED—on Old Man Hard Times —that person is suffering from a slight sleep

This is no appeal to your Pride—it is a direct appeal to that “old man selfishness” who guards your pocketbook Your little “stake” in your home town is “at stake.” No, the world’s not coming to an end yet.... not that,. But we do need to wake up to the fact that every man and woman in this “man and woman’s town” has got to do something to safeguard his or her future. There’s just one “white alley” for us all .... and that’s our Chamber of Commerce. You may believe it or not, but the fact remains it is the only organization in this town that has come forward with a real depression-defeating program Sure, it’s made mistakes—but who hasn’t made them and plenty of them since the GoldRush of ’29? It’s no more infallible than YOU are —but at least it is working tooth and toe-nail to fight this peace-time battle The point of it all is-WHAT WILL YOU DO TO HELP?
