BRITONS BRAND ‘GO-GETTER’ OF AMERICAN MYTH U. S. Finance Crisis Due to Lack of Leaders, Says English Paper. B;t United l‘rea LONDON, March 31.—The gogetter American is as much a myth as the strong and silent man of England, the Financial News said today in commenting on the United States financial situation. The newspaper said recent developments in the United States were due not to a lack of national responsibility, but to a lack of leadership. “The legend of the business-like American full of pep has as much relation to real life as most other figments of footlights, screen, and popular serial, including the strong silent Englishman, the musical and emotional Welshman, and the nonmoral Frenchman,” the Financial News said. ‘‘Americans delight in being shepherded. The high lights of American history are all associated with great names—Washington, Hamilton, Jackson, Lincoln, Morgan, Roosevelt, Ford. ‘‘The supply has never failed in the past nor will it fail in the future. ‘‘But unfortunately, the present crisis has not yet produced the required man.” FORMER MAYOR, WIFE WITNESSES IN SUIT Duvalls Summoned in Damage Action Over Car Crash. John L. Duvall, former Indianapolic mayor, and his wife, Mrs. Maude Duvall, were witnesses in superior court two today in the SSOO damage suit of William Buser against Mrs. Annie Stenzel, 659 East Twenty-fifth street. Buser was injured Dec. 31, 1931, when his automobile, driven by Mrs. Duvall, collided with one driven by Mrs. Stenzel at Washington boulevard and Forty-ninth street. Buser alleges Mrs. Stenzel failed to give his car right of way. Mrs. Stenzel asserts the other car was being driven at a rate of sixty miles an hour.
