FAWCETT HUNT PARTY J.EAVES Jrapper Heads Expedition for Jungle Search. By United rrrn RAO PAULO, Brazil, March 23. —An expedition was en route today to the great jungle to pick up the phantom trail of the last explorer, Colonel P. H. Fawcett, who vanished seven years ago. The small band of men who started for the uncharted and dense, green land of the interior was headed by Stephan Rattin, Swiss trapper, who believes he talked with Colonel Fawcett, held prisoner by Indians, at a native village in the jungle. Rattin’s story of seeing a white man held prisoner by Indians was considered sufficiently authentic to warrant sanction by British officials for his rescue expedition. Rattin's description of the bearded man dressed in Indian garb who whispered “Englishman” to him tallied in many respects with a description of Fawcett given by members of his family in Europe. Fawcett, his son Jack and a young Englishman named Raleigh Rimell entered the jungle seven years ago in search of a “lost civilization” which Fawcett was convinced would prove that South America was the cradle of the human race.
