GRAF ZEPPELIN READY FOR TEN HOPS OVER SEA First South American Trip Will Be Started Sunday. By United Pre*H FRIEDRICHSHAFEN, March 18. —The regular winter over-hauling of the Graf Zeppelin has been completed, and the veteran airship is ready, as soon as her gasbags are filled, for the first of her ten South American Journeys, scheduled to begin Sunday. Captain Ernst Lehmann, who will be in command of the flights, has announced the following schedule: SOUTH BOUND (DeMrtures 12:30 A. M> Arrive Priodrichshafen X^rnambuco March 20 March 22 Aoril 3 Anril 5 Aorll 17 Aoril 19 Mav i Mav 3 NORTHBOUND Leave Arrive Pernambuco Priednchshalen March 25 March 28 Aoril 8 Aoril 11 Aoril 22 Aoril 25 Mav 6 Mav 9 The flights then will be suspended to avoid the summer tropical rainy season, and will be resumed during August to November, when six more trips will be undertaken on about the same schedule. Some Freight Carried The Zeppelin will carry some freight in addition to passengers, mail and express. As in former South America trips, airplane connections have been arranged with the Lufthansa in Germany and the Condor Syndicate in South America. Planes will leave Berlin at noon before the midnight departures of the Graf, and will leave the Zeppelin airport for Berlin immediately after her arrival from Pernambuco. The Condor Syndicate will make airplane connections from Pernambuco to Bahia, Rio Janeiro and Buenos Aires. Eckener to Make Trip Although Captain Lehmann will be in complete charge of the flights, Dr. Hugo Eckener plans to make the March journey, and perhaps one other in the fall, depending on his engagements with the business affairs of the Zeppelin works at that time. Spare parts and supplies for Graf already have been shipped to Pernambuco. INDIANA GRADUATE IS ITHACA COLLEGE HEAD Dr. Leonard B. Job Chosen President of New York Institution. By Times Special BLOOMINGTON, Ind., March 18. —lndiana university’s list of alumni who are presidents or ex-presidents of colleges and universities was increased to sixty-one here today, with appointment of Dr. Leonard B. Job as president of Ithaca col- j lege, Ithaca, N. Y. Dr. Job received the A. B. degree from Indiana uni- ! versity in 1915, and the A. M. degree in 1919. He holds the Ph. D. degree from Columbia university, where he specialized in school and college administration. Dr. John will take over his new duties June 1, succeeding Dr. George C. Williams, president of the college for the last nine years. He is a former assistant state superintendent of schools in Indiana and a training officer on the federal bard for vocational education. Victor Houston of Hawaii, delegate to congress, has called attention to the fact that a reduction of SII,OOO in appropriation for this work in the geological survey of the interior department will mean dismissal of an associate topographic and geodetic engineer and an assistant geologist, who were added to the pay roll in 1932, as well as two local observers or field assistants, in Alaska who look after the seismo- ; graphs there. ' BUICK CAMPAIGN OPENS Western Union Increases Force to Handle Sales Literature. Seventy-five boys were added to the local messenger force of the Western Union Telegraph Com- j pany for delivery of printed matter introducing the new Buick 3,500pound sedan. The work will be, concluded Tuesday. In all, 3.200 pieces of literature will be delivered throughout the nation by ■ Western Union, necessitating employment of 5,000 boys in addition to the regular messenger forces, at at added cost of $65,000 for labor.
