SOCIAL PROBLEMS ARE INTERPRETED
Views of Industry, Church, School, Press Voiced at Symposium. Views of industry, the church, the school and the press on today’s social problems were voiced by four speakers at a symposium in the Roberts Park M. E. church. Wednesday night. “Business is becoming more human. It is realizing that the individual counts,’’ declared W. R. Allen, personnel director of L. S. Ayres & Cos., the speaker for business. Speaking for the school. Dr. Clyde White, head of the Indiana university bureau of social research, said: “We have too much propaganda in the schools.’’ He discussed the relation of crime to the present conception of private property rights. The Rev. Alpha H. Kenna, pastor of the church, urged a greater acceptance of the social teachings of Christ, in discussing the church’s stand. View of the press was stated by Boyd Gurley, editor of The Times. He said the present depression is the first made by the hand of man, others being due to natural events. Political action is the remedy, he stated, and declared the press can play an important part. R. O. Berg presided. He announced that Paul Douglas, noted author and economist, will speak in the church next month. MaeFaddon Gets Italian Medal Bf/ United I‘rrsx NEW YORK.
