i the widening and resurfacing of j | Sixteenth street between Capitol and Northwestern avenues, will be devoted to resurfacing as much of | Central avenue, between Thirtyfourth and Fifty-second streets, as finances permit. In addition to the proposed SIOO,000 bond issue, the board at present 1 has approximately $26,800 balance in the resurfacing fund, added to which will be approximately $16,000 to be received in the resurfacing tax levy June 1, making a total of $142,800, all of which will be needed for the four major projects. Any other street paving projects initiated this year will have to be paid for entirely by benefited property owners without the city assuming a share of the cost, board members said. The Michigan street work will connect with the section widened and resurfaced last year, from Ta- | coma to Highland avenues. Plans have been prepared for elimination of the jog at Highland avenue. The New York street work is divided into five separate projects, East to Noble street, Noble to the Monon railroad, Monon to Highland avenue, Highland to Arsenal avenue, and Arsenal to StatO avenue. Estimated cost is $93,000. New York street already has been widened and paved from State to
between Arsenal and State for a new right of way, straightening the street. When completed, New York street will be between forty-five and forty-eight feet in width from the downtown district east to Irvington Whether or not Central avenue be ' surfaced depends largely on the amount of relief the board is forced Emerson avenues, a distance of I about two miles.
