FRANCE TO PAY BRIAND TRIBUTE AS STATESMAN Called Her Greatest Since Richelieu: Pomp to Mark Rites. BY RALPH HEINZEN United Pres* Staff Correspondent PARIS, March B.—France will honor Aristide Briand in the most brilliant and pompous of state funerals, such as accorded national military heroes—then the veteran man of peace will be buried among the peasants in a rustic village cemetery overlooking the peaceful valley of the Eure river. Messages expressing the sympathy of the world poured into the ioreign office on the passing Monday of the greatest French statesman since Richelieu and one of the greatest peace makers of all time. Diplomats and commoners stood in line for hours to pass into the tiny bedroom, and view the emaciated figure and the famous shaggy head of the man who sought to make war impossible. Briand will be given a state funeral, such as that accorded Marshals Foch and Joffre and other heroes, which means the utmost pomp and military display. Briand’s family agreed to the funeral at the government’s insistence, although they had desired a simple burial more in keeping with Briand’s life of peace. Briand’s body will be taken to the foreign office Thursday. The public will be allowed to file past the coffin. On Saturday morning the body will be placed in the courtyard at the foreign office. There Briand will be saluted by the diplomatic corps and members of the senate and chamber and eulogized by Premier Andre Tardieu. The body will be placed in a vault at the Passy cemetery in Paris until a burial place is prepared at Cocherel, where Briand lived as a farmer whenever he could leave affairs of state. Briand bought a former parsonage adjoining the cemetery in 1908 and maintained the cemetery at his own expense because he always intended to be buried there.

When Its Hot , Its Cold
When it’s hot, it’s cold, and when it's cold, it’s hot. This isn’t a puzzler or a hardboiled egg, it’s merely what Miss Cleo Jackley of the English hotel found Monday when she visited the Frigidaire Corporations’ exhibit in the Riley room of the Claypool. And it being a chilly day, Miss
TOY OUN BANDIT HELD BACKWARD Shortridge Girl Is Examined by Psychiatrist. Miss Vera Wood, 17, Shortridge high school girl and toy gun bandit suspect, is a “social outcast” and a failure in her studies, Juvenile Judge John F. Geckler was told today. Other findings that the girl has few interests but is adept at drawing were included in a report of Mrs. Leona Frankfort, juvenile court investigator, to Geckler. Gecklcr said Miss Wood will be ordered placed in the city hospital psychopathic ward Wednesday. Her trial on charges of drunkenness and delinquency was scheduled for Thursday. Geckler last week ordered the mental examination made by Dr. Murray De Armond, psychiatrist, after the girl’s case had been transferred from the court of Municipal Judge William H. Sheaffer. Mrs. Frankfort reported her findings after being ordered to question the girl at her home. The report stated Miss Wood read much, but had failed in all her studies, except drawing. She is a sophomore, but should have been a senior, Mrs. Frankfort reported.
