FOURTEEN HURT IN RAIL CRASH; PROBEJDPENED [Two Cars of Monon Train Leave Rails, Crash Into Engine on Siding. Investigation of the collision of a Monon passenger train and a switch engine Wednesday night on the railroad elevation at Eleventh street and Massachusetts avenue, in which fourteen persons were injured, one seriously, was launched today by police, railroad and public service commission officials. Two rear cars of the passenger train, bound for Chicago, left the rails at a switch, intersecting the Nickel Plate main line, and crashed ii>o the switch engine standing at the intersection waiting for the passenger train to pass. Three of the switch engine crew were injured and ten passengers and a porter on the Monon train were hurt. Injured passengers are: H. G. Engineer “Feels Drag’’ Hotchkiss is in the Methodist hospital. Others injured were treated at city hospital. W. Patton, Negro, 52, of Chicago, passenger train porter, was cut on the face by flying glass. Members of the switch engine crew injured are: Z. V. Chastain, of 1842 Central avenue, conductor, back iniurles: Jack H. Wolf, of 2932 Cornell avenue, switchman, leg injuries, and P. M. Cummings, of 751 North TTcmont avenue, knee iniurles. Two other members of the switching crew were not injured. A. M. Holmes, 38. of 3838 Winthrop avenue, engineer, told police he felt a slight drag on the train, but did not believe it was anything serious until the train stopped. Two coaches had veered to the rim of a concrete abutment, beneath which was a twenty-five foot drop. Glass Showers Coaches Injured persons were in the sixth and seventh cars which left the rails. They were thrown from the seats and cut by flying glass as windows in both coaches were shattered. Baggage was scattered over the interior of the cars. Dog Aristocrats Aid Charity By United Press DETROIT, March 3.—Pedigreed dogs have joined in the fight here against poverty and unemployment.
