POLICE BATTLE THROUGH STORM AFTERTRAPPER Death Is Odds on Favorite In Long Man Hunt in Arctic Circle. By United Prut AKLAVIK, Northwest Territory, Feb. 12.—The game of hare and hounds that Albert Johnson, crazed trapper, has played with a band of Royal Northwest Mounted police went on today, with the odds lengthening that death would be the winner. Johnson, wanted by the officers for slaying a constable and wounding another, was swallowed up in the endless Arctic tundras north of here. Bitter winds whipped hardfrozen snow against the faces of the possemen and forced them to slacken their hunt. They feared Johnson, fleeing alone through the wilderness, would lose his life in the raging storm. He had few supplies, but carried the powerful rifle, with which he fought off police attacks, and a store of ammunition. With members of the posse holding close together for their own safety, they believed Johnson had little chance of surviving long exposure in the frozen bush country where he took refuge. Captain W, R. (Wop) May, w’ho flew 1,600 miles to aid the hunt, found himself of slight help. He managed to fly a load of supplies and ammunition to the passe, but when he returned with reinforcementa the weather w r as so bad he could not land, and was in danger of becoming lost himself.

Highway Cops Travel By United Press HARRISBURG, Pa., Feb. 12. During the first eleven months of last year, Pennsylvania highway patrolmen covered 5,408,429 miles of roads, investigated 70.001 accidents and complaints, gave 515,271 warnings without arrests, and collected $369,609 in fines, Superintendent Wilson C. The prime minister's office was invaded after members of a “workless and foodless’’ demonstration became infuriated at his delay in receiving a delegation. Many ex-service men were in the mob. The prime minister attempted to reason with the mob when it broke into the council chamber and assaulted him and members of his council. Sir Richard was struck in the face and cuffed and bruised. Members of the mob, including some of the toughest elements of the city, smashed the windows and doors of the prime minister’s office. They seized Sir Richard by the collar and legs, picked him up and threatene dto hurl him into the street unless he complied with their demands immediately.
