MINERS PACKED CONVENTION, IS REBELS' CHARGE Unfair Apportionment of Delegates Is Alleged in Bulletin. Charges that the convention of the United Mine Workers of America, which closed here last week “was packed” against them are amplified in a bulletin issued by the Illinois insurgents, who repeatedly were voted down in their fight for home rule and salary reductions. The bulletin declares that twelve states having only aA average of 6,484 dues-paying members were given 533 delegates in the convention while Illinois with 31,368 paying members had but 285 votes. District 1 of Pennsylvania with 45,643 members had only 131 votes, and District 9 of Pennsylvania with 32,403 members had only 61 delegates, the bulletin charges. “Penalized,” Is Charge “Those districts where there was evidence of discontent with the manner in which affairs of the oternational organization was being handled were penalized by having their voting power taken away,” the bulletin declares. The bulletin also sets out that in 1921 the membership of the international was 442,057, against 152,148 for 1931. The loss in union membership in Indiana is extraordinarly large, according to the tabulation, which says that in 1921 there were 27,711 union miners while in 1930, 1931 there were only 8,089, yet 13,881 miners were employed in 1930. District 2 of Pennsylvania with 40,597 in 1921 dropped to 1,115 in 1931, it sets out. Similar percentages of loss are reported from all over the nation. Out of the 644,006 miners vho were employed in 1930, the books lor 1930-1931 show that only 175,439 belonged to the international. Blame for the loss in membership was placed directly upon the international officers by insurgent leaders. Illinois had 285 delegates who represented 31,368 tax-paying members. “District I—Pennsylvania has 131 delegates and paid tax on 45,643 members. “District 31—West Virginia has 125 delegates and paid tax on 2,214 members. “District 9—Pennsylvania has sixty-one delegates and paid tax on 32,403 members. “District s—Pennsylvania has eighty-six delegates and paid taxes on 1,183 members.”

SUIT FILED TO RETAIN SCHOOL TAKEN BY CITY Perry Township Taxpayers Protest Annexation of Property. Perry township school officials had filed suit today in superior court in an attempt to halt annexation of the township’s University Heights school by the city. Omer Green, township trustee, headed the plaintiffs, asking the court to prevent the completion of the transfer of the school property to the board of school commissioners. Heated opposition from township residents was started after the city council early in January annexed the land upon which the school stands. A large group of University Heights residents, headed by I* O. Hannan, obtained this annexation measure. Coplaintiffs in the suit are: Andrew F. Landers, Essie F, Penrod and Christian Lammers, advisory board members, and the following taxpayers: Benjamin T. Mayer, Christoff Rosenbaum, Maurice Reicher, John A Esmon, George M. Bixler and Floyd E. Beghtel. The suit charges that the cost of transferring pupils from the Perry township school to the city school is “exorbitant.” * It sets forth that approximately 400 township pupils attend the school each year, compared with about 160 children from University Heights, a part of the city. The suit contends this disproportionate rate is increasing each year. The annexation problem arose after Green had a dispute with city school commissioners regarding charges for transferring city children to the township school. Green refused to pay $93 each for transferring thirty-six township puils to city school No. 72, when the city would pay only $67 each for its transfers. BEAUTY - AIDS~DISCUSSED Cosmetologists and Hairdressers to Close Convention Tonight. Improving of Hoosier pulchritude was discussed by the State Society of Cosmetologists and Hairdressers today at the closing sessions of a two-day convention at the Severin. Subjects of addresses included “Eyebrow and Eyelash Dyeing,'' “Fingerwaving and Hair Dressing, “How to Dye Hair” and “New Aids to Beauty and Makeup.” The annual dinner and dance of the society will be held tonight. Officers elected Monday are Mrs Frances Diller, president; Mrs Frances Motherwell, secretary, and Mrs. Myrtle Dee Clark, treasurer All are from Ft. Wayne.

"That is where the money came from. This is a fight to put every dollar back to work. Every dollar withdrawn from circulation means more unemployment.” Details of the campaign are being withheld until they are perfected and “foolproof,” Knox said. He will leave for Chicago Wednesday to open headquarters of his national' organization there. State chairmen will be named to direct organization in each community.
