charge that she murdered Agnes Ann e Leroi, a close friend. Testimony was that of Dr. Joseph Catton, San Francisco, alienist, who said the blond defendant tolfi him she killed Mrs. Leroi and Mrs. Leroi's roommate, Hedvig Samuelson, because of J. J. Halloran, wealthy Arizona sportsman. Thus supported the state’s claim that jealousy led Mrs. Judd to shoot her friends. “There would have been no Winnie Ruth Judd case if there we.e no Jack Halloran,”. Dr. Catton said she told him. Dr. Catton advanced the possibility Halloran was at the apartment the night of the slayings. The alienist brought out in greater detail the asserted Intimacy between Mrs. Judd and Halloran. “Jack Halloran was the only one there that night who was drinking,” Catton quoted Mrs. Judd as saying, when she was discussing events of the night of Oct. 16, 1931, when Mrs.

Leroi and Miss Samuelson were killed. It had not been suggested previously that Halloran was In the Leroi-Samuelson apartment the night they were slain. Dr. Catton said Mrs. Judd admitted intimate relations with Halloran, starting the night before Christmas, 1930, and extending until just before the slayings. He claimed her fear that Mrs. Leroi and Miss Samuelson were taking Halloran away from her prompted Mrs. Judd to shoot them. “It was Jack Halloran, the. attentions Mrs. Leroi and Miss Samuelson paid to him, and the affair between the two victims which caused the tragedy,” Dr. Catton said Mrs. Judd told him.
