MAN'S ARREST MAY CLEAR UP FORGERY PLOT Attempt to Get Money From Mt. Vernon Man Charged to Suspect. A forgery plot in which prominent Mt. Vernon and Indianapolis persons were victims was believed by authorities to be cleared today with the arrest, in Kokomo, of a man giving his name as Robert Malley, alias Shannon, 32, Marietta, O. O. E. Wcilbrenner, secretary of the Mt. Vernon Kiwanis Club, recently wrote C. F. Spencer, auditor of the Indiana securities commission, informing him that he had been elected an honorary member of the Mt. Vernon club. On Feb. 1, Wcilbrenner received a wire, signed “Charles F. Spence,” requesting a S3O loan. Wcilbrenner noted the misspelled last name and notified authorities. An order for $5 was sent to Indianapolis in an attempt to trap the sender after Wcilbrenner learned from Spencer that he had made no such request. When a man attempted to collect money at an Indianapolis Western Union office, the attendant was alone. Fearful that he could not hold - the suspect himself, he said the money had not arrived and advised him to return the next day. The entrapment attempt failed. Malley attempted five forgeries in Kokomo Wednesday, it was charged, but failed in all and was arrested. Spencer went to Kokomo today to aid authorities in clearing up the forgery attempt.
