MANNERS /’MORALS
TTELP our readers if you can! If any of you recognize your own experience in the letters that are published here, write to Jane Jordan and tell her what you learned! ! All letters are welcome' A short time ago I answered a letter in this column from Troubled Sister. She was concerned because she was powerless to stop the improper conduct of her younger sister, who had some mistaken notions \ about her right to freedom. My advice to Troubled Sister was that she stick to the young girl, and wait for life to teach her the lesson which she would not learn from her wiser sister. The same day brought a letter from Billie, a girl who had been through this phase of “wild youth” and repented. Her stepmother, however, would not let her forget her error. I asked Billie to write Troubled Sister a letter, advising her how to handle the little sister and win her away from dangerous indulgences. Here is Billie’s answer: Dear Troubled Sister—Jane Jordan asked me If X knew of nnv wav to influence your sister. I am afraid 1 don’t. I know exactly how you feel. When your sister. just a silly young child, craving excitement. realizes how mistaken she has been, she will come to you. Things can not be like this forever, and she will soon find out that her present company will tire of her. • Experience Is a good teacher,” But. in the end. you’ll be proud of her. I’ve had the same experience. When I was participating in this supposed “modern vogue." nothing could stop me. I soon hezan to notice that real people were iznorlnz me. When your sister notices the same thing. I’m sure she will change. I'm afraid. Troubled Sister, there is nothing you can do. except be patient until your sister finds herself. Whatever vou do. stand by her. I have tried to seek entirely new places to live, but always mv stepmother recs that someone knows about mv misfortune. She has succeeded in turning mv own brother egains* me, but with the rest of my relations It has been impossible. Will Jane Jo-dan answer this? Is there nnv chance of mv past preventing me from cetting a good 'rustful vo"nc man who would forgive all? BILLIE. st n n DEAR BILLIE—Thank you for your letter to Troubled Sister, which corroborates my opinion that there is no way to stop a headstrong girl until she burns herself. As for your question, “Will a man forgive a girl who has a past and I marry her just the same?” I would like to have some frank letters from our men readers on this point. Will all the men who read this column write to Jane Jordan and tell how they feel about marrying a girl who has had a previous love experience? I would like to publish a column containing nothing but the opinions of various men on this question! Asa bit of encouragement. Billie, I will tell you that it has been done, many times! Many girls in your present predicament have found husbands. Nevertheless, I would like to have as many letters as I can get from the men! And now, Billie, here is a letter of encouragement for you from another woman, also named Billie! Dear Billie—Billie, walk opt on vour .stepmother and take care of yourself! There are lots of things vou can do! When I was only 17 years old. mv own mother nagged at. me constantly. She was so afraid “the inevitable"' would happen that she made mv life at home a misery. So ope day I just walked off and haven’t been back since, except for an occasional visit. I remained a nice girl and haven't found life hard at all. I now am 34 vrars old and have been married for fifteen years to a very fine Irish boy. We have one child and are verv happy. Indeed. Mv husband makes onlv *22.50 a week, but we manage to get along nirelv on It. So. Billie, whv not go on your ow-n for a year or so? And look around for a good husband. I do not advise you to marrv so young. Wait at least a year or so, then vou will bo older and knowbetter what vou want. Marriage and vour own home is the best bet vet! ANOTHER BILLIE. Jane Jordan would like to add a word of warning. Economic conditions today are much more difficult to cope with than they were when Another Billie left home! Besides, there is your father! He deserves some consideration, for he is not to blame for the unhappy condition your stepmother creates! Can t you confide in him more and get him to help place you where her indiscreet tongue can not follow you? DELTA CHI OFFICERS TO BE INSTALLED Installation of officers will be held nonight by the Delta Chi sorority, at the home of Miss Mary Duncan, 1236 Temple street. Those to be installed are Misses Jessie Hendren. president; Margaret Blottman, vicepresident; Kawerine Massena, recording secretary; Melba Weis, corresponding secretary; Irma Ogle, treasurer, and Margaret Harris, sergeant-at-arms.
What’s in Fashion?
New Towel Colors, Textures Directed. By AMOS PARKISH
New ‘iORK, Jan. 6.—8-r-r-r! . . . cold needles pricking you all over from that morning shower. And then, rushes of warmth as you rub with a thick, nubby towel. You are whistling or singing lustily before you’re don. Probably you don’t think anything about that towel as you used it. No reason why you should. But we’ve done a lot of investigating into the towel question lately and we’re now “towel-conscious.” First thing we noticed is that newest bath towels have a luxurious texture, with a deeper pile, and absorbency that’s almost as powerful as blotting paper. And then, many of the designs are made by novel weaves. Basket weaves. Herringbones, Ribbed effects. All fine for getting the circulation going. White With Colored Borders If you take a peek at a family linen closet that’s been stocked by a fashion-knowing hand, you’ll see piles of fluffy towels in white with colored borders. Stripes. Solid hems. Plaids and woven effects. Os course when the towels are going to be depended on for a lot of color interest in the bathroom, they’re apt to be in solid shades with contrasting borders. Black borders, for instance. Imagine a green towel with a black hem. Or an orchid one with little black silhouettes enlivening the ends. Every bit as effective as it sounds . . . and makes a bathroom look very swank. Initialed ends are smart, too. And ombre (shaded) stripes. Period Designs Smart People who go in for designs on towels get a break this year. They can carry out the period of their houses right to the very towels. The new reversible towels come in modern, directoire, and provincial patterns. We’ve sketched a directoire, or early nineteenth century design, the swan, which by some strange chance is floating around among the stars. Or maybe the stars are reflected in his pool. That’s it. Towels even are specializing these

Fewer, Less Severe Colds With “Colds-Control” Plan
Discovery By Makers of Vicks Vapoßub Makes Possible Better “Control-of-Colds” In the Home. HIGH COSTS REDUCED Relief from much of the burden imposed by colds is now available in every home. The Vick Plan for better "Control-of-Colds” lessens the number, the severity and the duration of colds. It reduces the family’s -Colds-Tax” in money, loss of time and health. A New Vick Discovery This Plan has been perfected by the makers of Vicks Vapoßub—made possible by Vicks Nose <fe Throat Drops. Based on anew idea for ’■preventing" colds, this new Vick formula is an ideal companion to Vapoßub, the modern way of "treating” colds. Used together, they aid and supplement each other in the Vick Plan for better “Control-of-Colds,” which follows: I.—Before a Cold Starts Watch yourself whenever you have been exposed to anything that you know is apt to give you a cold, such SS Contact with others having fresh colds—crowds, stuffy, ill-ventilated rooms, public places—a night on a Pullman or a dusty automobile ride —suaden changes in temperature—inhaling smoke, dust, gases—excesses in living, such as over-eating, smoking or drinking, which reduce body resistance—after a hard day when you are over-tired.
days. Tweedy, rough-textured ones for men. Or with regimental stripes. Others for children have whole families of ducks (for one example), swarming over them. Hand towels, too, are going in for interesting textures, and they’re often fringed out at the ends. Herringbones and basket weaves are popular as ever. So are damasks. Often these have striped borders. Somebody had the colorful thought of using hand towels that contrast with bath towels. A coral bath towel with a green hand towel, for instance. And by the way, these colors, in both kinds of towels, are deeper than they’ve been. Clear jade green that reminds you of the water you often see in pictures but seldom in a real seascape. Daffodil yellow that has a happy effect in a bathroom. Powder blue and orchid. And if you want to be very, verysmart, (and ahead of your neighbors), outfit your bathroom in beige or platinum (silver gray) towels. XoDvrieht. 1932. bv Amos Parrisht Next: Amos Parrish writes about the bright-colored midwinter dresses. Kirby Page Is Dinner Guest at Spink-Arms Kirby Page, New York, who spoke at the meeting of the International Relations Society Monday at the Columbia Club, was honored at a dinner given by a group of fifty of his friends Monday night at the Spink-Arms. All those present were members of the society. Following the dinner Page spoke informally on the Manchurian situation, and the problem in India, His talk was followed by a general discussion. Other special guests were Dr. Alexander Paul, New York, and Frank McLaughlin, Mexico City, both prominent in international affairs, and friends of Page. ENTERTAIN BUTLER FACULTY SOCIETY Mrs. Willard* N. Clute and Mrs. Frederick B. Kershner will receive ! informally this afternoon at the home of Mrs. Clute, 5257 Hinesley road, for members of the Women’s Faculty Club of Butler university. The tea table will be centered with yellow roses and daffodils, and lighted with yellow tapers. Appointments will be in shades of yellow. Stunt Night Planned Stunt night will be observed by the Phi Beta Beta sorority Friday night at the home of Miss Anna Dwyer, 1258 Burdsall Parkway boulevard.
Then—if you feel that stuffy, sneezy irritation of the nasal passages, Nature’s usual signal that a cold is coming on—use Vicks Nose Drops at once—just a few drops up each nostril. Repeat every hour or so, if needed. This will prevent many colds by stopping them before they get beyond the nose and throat—where most colds start. 2. —After a Cold Starts At night, massage the throat and chest well with Vicks Vapaßub (now available in white ’’stainless” form, if you prefer). Spread on thick and cover with warm flannel Leave the bed-clothing loose around the neck so that the medicated vapors arising can be inhaled all night long. If the air-passages are badly clogged with mucus, melt some Vapoßub in a bowl of hot water and inhale the steaming vapors for several minutes. (If there is a cough, you will like the new Vick Cough Drop—actually medicated with ingredients of Vicks VapoRub.) During the day—any time, any place—use Vicks Nose Drops every few hours as needed. This gives you full 24-hour treatment and without the risks of too much internal ’’dosing” which so often upsets digestion—especially of children. Trial Offer Guarantee Every druggist in the United States is offering Vicks Nose & Throat Drops and Vicks Vapoßub on the following trial guarantee: Use together as directed in the Vick Plan for better "Control-of-Colds.” Unless you are delighted with results, your druggist is authorized to refund your money.—Advertisement.
