SPUR ACTION ON BILLS STRIKING AT DEPRESSION Hoover, Legislators Confer on Efforts to Speed Up Congress. /> vfil i ‘ P'l Prrin WASHINGTON, Dor. 26 President Hoover hopes to stimulate early congressional action on his domestic economic relief propram by a series of conferences with representatives and senators during the holidays. The President talked today with Senator Fletcher (Deny. Fla.) who assured him congress would try to act soon on measures designed to alleviate the depression. Mr. Hoover also received Senator Swanson (Dem., Va.). At the White House, it was said Mr. Hoover plans to give considerable thought and study to his economic program during the next few’ days. After a Christmas day spent jovially with his two young grandchildren, the President returned to the. executive offices early this morning and immediately resumed work on his proposals. About two weeks ago, Mr. Hoover submitted to congress the twelve-point program which he believed would relieve distress from unemployment and aid the country in its quest for prosperity. , Among the high points of this program are strengthening of the federal land bank system, assistance to home owners through a system of home loan discount banks, revision of the banking laws to safeguard depositors and the creation of a reconstruction finance corporation to liberalize industrial and agricultural credits.
