BY BEN STERN FJULL out the old stereotyped line, -*■ boys, about “all roads leading ! to,” for most of the state’s Democracy will be present at Boonville Wednesday night, when Phil Lutz Jr., old First district chairman, does | the honors for the new Eighth district. From all indications, the affair will be a home-coming for what is known as the Peter McNutt branch of the party, for Lutz is a staunch adherent of R. Earl Peters, state chairman, and a perfervid devotee of Paul V. McNutt, outstanding contender for the nomination for Governor. Spice will be added to the affair, however, as dispatches from Boonville say that invitations have been accepted by the leaders of the opposition to the above named group —Frank Mayr Jr., secretary of state; Grover Garrott, chief of state police and old Ninth district chairman; James W. Carpenter, head of the auto license bureau and old Sixth district chairman, and Lee Bays, Second district chairman. Host of political lights, including such sideliners in the organization melee as Albert Stump and Walter Myers of Indianapolis, candidates for the nomination for United States senator, will also be present. n a u Somewhere in the crowd is sure to be Hendricks Kenworthy, deputy chieftain of the city organization, who attends more rallies than a legislator does drinking bouts. Thomas D. Taggart, national committeeman, and his factotum, Dick Werneke, and his factotum, Mayor Wood Posey of Terre Haute, also will occupy seats where the best portions are to be served. It will be a great event and most interesting of all is that it heralds the launching by Lutz of his campaign to be chairman of the new district. Aligned against him will be the group of auto license distributers named by Mayr in the counties of the district, and, in particular, Gilbert Bosse of Evansville. a tt Bosse is worth particular mention, in that he has convinced the Mayr organization leaders that he is the “big shot” in the district, whereas, down in his home county, he usually is called into the party conferences only when it is a question of finances, they tell me. Three familiar faces will not be present, it was indicated today. They are those of Chester Montgomery, Rudy Ackermann, * and Mayor W. R. Hinkle of South Bend. Once they were as inseparable as beer and pretzels, but now their paths are as divergent as the way a Hoosier senator votes and drinks. However, it is remarked: “They will not be missed.”
