CURTIS DECIDES HE'LL RUN FOR VICE-PRESIDENT Kansan Won’t Make Senate Race, He Asserts After Long Deliberation. (Continued from Pajre 1) widely mentioned as a possible candidate, said recently that he would not be a candidate it Curtis desired renomination. It. is assumed here that belcre making his announcement Curtis ascertained that Mr. Hoover appeared willing to have him as a running mate again. For some months Curtis seriously considered seeking his old senate seat. He spent several weeks ’n Kansas last summer and returned here somewhat favorable to lhat pi in. However, the Republican situation in Kansas has become increasingly confused, with chances of a Democratic sweep growing stronger, according to political observers. Another consideration was that had Curtis declined to stand lor renomination it would have been construed in Democratic quarters as evidence Curtis had doubts about the ability of the Republicans to re-elect Mr. Hoover. Upsets Kansas Plans lijl In it id I'resH TOPEKA, Kan., Nov. 30.—Uncertainty prevailed today in Republican circles after the decision of Vice-President Charles Curtis not to seek a senate seat. There nad been a general G. O. P. agreement that Curtis, if he wished, was to have the senatorial nomination. Custis’ action has terminated the agreement between factions, leaving a wide open race fo r both senator and Governor on the party ticket. Three men, as a result, stood out today as likely contenders for the \ senatorial nomination They were Henry J. Allen, former senator; j Homer Hoch, Fourth district representative, and Clyde Reed, former Governor. PETTIS CO. REORGANIZES Indiana Trust, Named Receiver, to; Retain Gable as Manager. Steps looking toward a financial, reorganization ol the Pettia Dry Goods Company were begun this m uiung when Judge John W. Kern ol tlie Marion superior court appointed the Indiana Trust Company as receiver for the Pettis company. Oilicers of the trust company said that they had retained Robert B. Gable, who has been at ihe head of the store since early this year as general manager. Gable announced that there would be no changes made in either personnel or policy of the store and that the business of the company would continue as usual.
