THUGS MENACE CHILDREN, AND : LOOT DWELLING Girl Forced to Reply ‘Nothing Is Wrong,’ When Phone Call Comes. (Continued from Page 1) the door, but when one of them pointed a revolver at me through the glass, I was so scared I let them in. “When the two came into the house, they let another man in the back door. He stood in the living room with Mary and me, while the others looked through all the rooms and took Mrs. Lewis’ wrist watch and two revolvers belonging to Mr. Lewis. j “Mary was so scared. I sat down, ! and* she covered her head with a coat and began to cry. Children Not Molested “I told them I was taking care of the children and asked them please not to wake them. TlV' said they wouldn’t, and one of the men said he had children at home. I was so afraid Joan, Richard and Raymond would wake up, but the men never went to the children’s room. ' When the phone rang, it was my mother. She had seen the lights go on and saw someone walking around inside the house. The man who was guarding us walked with me to the phone and pushed the gun against my side. He said to tell, whoever it was, that everytlung was all right. “My mother wanted to know if any one was there and I had to tell her there wasn’t and that everything was all right. In a few minutes she called again, and he made me. say the same thing. Then he 'pulled down the blinds, and jerked the phone from the wall.” At this point Lewis entered the rear door of his home, to be faced by a gunman armed with one of Lewis’ revolvers. Gives Up Ring, Money Lewis vsurrendeded his ring and money, then darted for the bedroom where one of his revolvers had been. "Don’t hurry, buddy,” Jeanette said the bandit called. "We got those guns a long time ago.” Lewis was ushered to the rear door, where the bandits told him to run through a field. When he halted behind a tree several yards away, one of the bandits fired, the girl said. Walking to the Lewis ear, the 1 trio of gunmeen asked occupants where they could “get a drink.” They fled north on Rosslyn avenue. Mrs. Hunt called deputy sheriffs. “I was real scared all the time,” Jeanette said. “But still I hate to think of tolling my mother that lie. I had to do it twice, too.” EDITORS IN NEW POSTS Thomas E.
