G. 0, P. CLINGS TO HOPE FOR HOUSE RULE Democrats, However, Move Ahead With Plans for Reorganization. Ity United Prrnn WASHINGTON, Nov. s.—While Rome leading Republican clung tenaciously to the hope that their party will remain in control of the house, Democrats went ahead with plans today for complete reorganization. from doorkeeper to speaker, on the basis of added strength gained in Tuesday's congressional elections. Meanwhile, Democrats and antiprohibitionists continued to rejoice over the results of the election from a national standpoint, greeting it as an naugury of success in 1932. In a statement today, Henry H. Curran, president of the Association Against the Prohibition amendment, said: “The election only is not a complete victory for getting rid of prohibition, but also is a particular warning to pussy footing Republicans who think they can fool the people on this issue. I wonder if the Republican leaders will wake irp in time to escape a complete knockout in 1932.” Republican leaders professed to sea nothing but an off-year reaction in the election of Democratic Governors in New Jersey and apparently in Kentucky, of Democratic mayors in New England cities, and of a Democrat in the Eighth Michigan congressional district. Candidates Are Discussed Proceeding on the assumption that Representative John N. Garner of Texas will be elected speaker, Democrats began discussion of candidates for important committee chairmanships, floor leader, committee clerks and house officers. Due to the large number of committee cahirmanships which will go to southern Democrats, if Garner wins, the northern Democrats are receiving the most attention for the floor leadership, political general of the party in action. Two men are prominently mentioned John O’Connor of New York and Henry T. Rainey of Illinois. Representative Joseph W. Byrns TTenn.) is in line for the chairmanship of the powerful appropriations committee; James W. Collier (Miss.), ways and means; Hatton W. Sumners (Tex.), judiciary; Samuel Dickstein, immigration, and James M. Mead, postoffices. The latter two are from New York. All told, there are more than forty committees. Page May Lose Job William Tyler Page, familiar frock-coated Virginian, will lose his post as clerk of the house if Democrats dominate, but under a custom inaugurated eight years ago, he probably will be offered a job as minority clerk. The new committee chairmen almost invariably bring in men of their own party as clerks to handle the committee's work, as a party reward. Positions of sergeant-at-arms, doorkeeper, postmaster and clerk are prize bits of legislative patronage. France has a railway on which cars running at a speed of fifty miles an hour carry helicopters to test the lifting power of their vans.

of manufacturing liquor, for which they were indicted. The government charged that they were the heads of the big rum ring, which operated with headquarters in' a poolroom and apartment building at Bates and Noble streets. Joe, the government sought to prove, was the head of the mob, with Paul as his chief lieutenant. They purchased and rented houses in which they erected stills and placed Italian families as operators, George R. Jeffrey, United States attorney, contended. Maximum penalty on a conspiracy charge of two years imprisonment with a SIO,OOO fine, while the top sentence on a liquor manufacturing conviction is five years in prison and a SIO,OOO fine. Thus the Modafarris could be sentenced each to twenty-seven years in prison, with total fines of $60,000 each. Joe still is held in jail in lieu of $25,000 bond, fixed after the government learned that he tried to intimidate one witness, Mrs. Bertha Anderson, his former sweetheart, who appeared on the stand against him.
