POLICE SEIZE HUGE STILL IN ANDERSON RAID Plant Has 400-Gallon Daily Capacity; Two Are Under Arrest. By Time* Special ANDERSON, Ind., Oct. 22.—Local authorities summoned federal prohibition officers here today to inspect one of the largest alcohol stills confiscated in Indiana since prohibition. 'Hie still, having a capacity of 400 gallons of alcohol a day. was found in a barn on an abandoned farm in Adams township, southeast of here, by Police Detectives Ralph Rich and George Sparks and Sheriff Bernard Bradley. Equipment consisted of two fiftyhorse power boilers, fired by coke; ten corn sugar fermenting vats with a capacity of 3,000 gallons; a 1,500gallon cooker and a sewer system which carried refuse to a nearby creek. Seizing of the still followed the arrest of Joe Glassi, 27, Springfield, 111., believed to have been an employe of a liquor ring, and Arthur Dunham, 20, who lives on a farm adjoining the abandoned tract. When detectives passed the farm, they observed two men hear the barn. Obtaining a search warrant from Prosecuting Attorney Charles Smith and with the aid of Sheriff Bradley, the officers visited the barn. As they neared it, two men fled, one carrying a shotgun. Shots fired at them were wild. Shells used for high power shooting were found in the barn. Faucets were opened, allowing thousands of gallons of mash and alcohol to run into the sewer. Some of the liquor and materials were saved for evidence. Authorities say the distillery will be destroyed by dynamite.
