SHORTRIDGE FACES WASHINGTON, TECH TESTS MANUAL
Champs in Night Till Broad Ripple Team Thumps Rushville Eleven in Wednesday Fray. City public high school football honors will be at stake in two important grid struggles carded tonight and Friday afternoon. Shortridge and Washington will renew their rivalry at Butler bowl under the arcs tonight. Manual’s unbeaten veterans will tangle with a fast-coming Tech eleven at the cast side field Friday afternoon. Washington, 1930 city public schools champions, and the north side Blue Devils have met twice in the past, with each holding a triumph. The Continentals turned in their in winning last year’s title. Washington already has bowed once this season, to Manual. H to 0, but has shown improvement in recent encounters. Shortridge, off to a slow start., will be playing its first city series game. A Manual victory Friday will give the south skiers a strong claim on the rny trophy, as the tilt will wind tip the city series schedule lor Coach Harry Painter’s crew with wins over Washington and Broad Hippie. The Ited eleven will play Cathedral on Nov. 6. Tech also is making its 1931 city series bow, and has late games scheduled with both Washington and Shortridge. Crispus Attucks, local Negro prep eleven, will invade Louisville for a Saturday battle. Coach Shellburne’s team is in top shape and prospects are bright for another triumph. Murbarger, key man in the Ripple offense, crashed through the line for the first touchdown early in the game and a few minutes later Everson, Ripple quarter back, crashed through center on a fake play and dashed thirty yards for the second marker. Just before the half closed Murbarger tossed a lateral pass to Everson and he was off forty-two yards for the third touchdown. Wildcat Soph May Miss Tilt By t nited /Ypv.s EVANSTON, 111., Oct. 22.—Despite the fact that all four of Northwestern’s regular backs have minor injuries, Ollie Olson, sophomore full back, i.- the only one who may not start Saturday’s game against Ohio. Olson will play, but Ai Moore, reserve full back for two years who played well against U. C. L. A. last week, probably will start. Coach Dick Hanley also is contemplating starting Tiny Engebretsen, who weighs 215. at guard instead of Dilley, who weighs 178, to give the Wildcat line more bulk.

Indiana Central meets Rose Poly in a home-coming feature tilt at Central Field Saturday afternoon at 2:30. Coach Harry Good, Greyhound mentor, has but three veterans on his varsity this fall. Del Moore is one of these veterans and he has been shifted back from the line to a full back position where he has been working well as a ball toter. The Poly Engineers come with a record of only one defeat last year in eight games and three victories and one defeat so far this season. Both teams were defeated by Franklin’s unbeaten eleven by about the same margin.

Boston U. Begins Trip Terriers First Eastern Team to Visit De Pauw for • Grid Tilt. By Times Special BOSTON, Oct. 22—An eastern team will invade Greencastle, Ind., lor the first time when Boston university’s Tigers meet De Pauw Saturday as the feature attraction of the Tiger's annual Old Gold homecoming day. Last year, De Pauw made the second eastern trip of its football history to defeat the Terriers. The B. U. team, twenty-five strong, left Boston today. Boston boasts a powerful defense, with a veteran line which will outweigh the Hoosiers by an average of five pounds. Lack of a scoring punch has been the chief trouble of the Terriers this season, but with Hootstein. star quarter, back in action, the eastern team will be at tops. A feature of Saturday's game will be the inauguration of the player control system by Boston, with the coach and. his assistants in the stands and the captain directing the team activities from the field.
