GAS COMPANIES WITHHOLD BIDS TO GET SURVEY Loss in Revenues Due to Hotter Mixture Must Be Determined. Natural gas distributors today announced they would withhold b<ds on supplying gas to the city utility district until they complete a survey to ascertain the amount of gas consumed in and its method of distribution. Necessity for such a survey became apparent Monday at a special meeting of Mayor Reginald Sullivan’s gas subcommittee. It was shown that mixed artifical natural gas. which the city proposes o supply through the city-owned Citizens Gas Company, will have a ligher heat unit than artificial gas done. With the higher heat unit, the juantity of gas sold to the public vould be reduced. This would involve a lass of revenue to the Citizens Gas Company, the mayor said. Willingness to share this loss until the consumption can be increased was expressed both by the Ohio Fuel Gas Company and the Kentucky Natural Gas Company. However, they desire to get accurate figures on the volume of gas consumed and details concerning its distribution. M. D. Curran of St. Louis, Mo., vice-president of the Ohio Fuel Gas Company, was represented by attorneys Joseph L. Daniels and Warrack Wallace. Alfred M. Ogle, Indianapolis, president of the Universal Gas Company, which has indicated intention of entering a bid for supplying natural gas, notified the mayor from New York that he could not attend the meeting.
