AD-LESS RADIO PROGRAM WILL START OCT. 17 Dr. Nicholas Murray Butler to Inaugurate Weekly Educational Feature. Ad-less broadcasts will be begun over a National Broadcasting Company network Oct. 17 by the National Council on Radio in Education. rather L. Dickerson. Indianapolis city librarian, is chairman of the council’s library committee. Dr. Nicholas Murray Butler, president of Columbia university will speak on Oct. 17, the first of thirty programs which will go on the air Saturday nights from 7:30 to 8, Indianapolis time. Broadcasts will be divided into two parts of fifteen minutes each, the first to be devoted to psychology, the second economics. Speakers Announced The series on economics will deal with tho depression and the possible ways out. Topics include: •Forerunners of this Depression,’ by Ernest L. Boizart. president of the American Economic Association; “International Economic Interdependence,” by Edwin F. Gay of Harvard university; “America and the Balance Sheet of Europe, by H. G. Moulton of the Brookings Institute of Washington. Relation of Banking Policies to Recovery, Jacob Hollander of Johns Hopkins university; and “Forward Planning of Public Works,” by Otto Mallery of Philadelphia, * rhychologists on I-ist Tentative plans have been made for talks on unemployment insurance, national economic planning, and the merger movement. Lectures on psychology include: “Psychology Today; Its Relation to Other Sciences and to Social Problems, by James R. Angell, president of Yale university: “Psychology: a Modern Science of Human Management,” by Walter R. Miles, president of the American Psychological association; “Learning and Forgetting; Some Recent Discoveries.” by Professor Edward S. Robinson of Yale university; “Convictions and Prejudices, Their Origin and Control,” by Professor Gardner Murphy of Columbia university; and “Current Trends In Psychology,” by Robert S. Woodworth, president of the Social Science Research council. Child Problems Slated Child development will find a place on the psychology programs. In this branch will be talks such as: “The Development of the Infant Mind,” by Arnold Gessell, director of the Yale clinic on child development; “Children's Fears,” by H. E, Jones of the California university Institute of child welfare; “Anger: Its Causes and Control," by Florence L. Goodenough of the Minnesota university institute of child welfare; “Social Behavior in Infancy and Childhood,” by John E. Anderson, director of the Minnesota university institute of child welfare; and "Adolescence,” by Leat S. Hollingsworth of the Colorado university teachers' college. The psychology period also will include talks on adult learning, changes of personality, and animal behavior. Dickerson has announced that the public library will feature the works of the lecturers and numerous recent books on all subjects they will discuss. REGIONAL BANK PLAN REVIVED Congress to Get Data on Financial Structure. By United Press WASHINGTON, Oct. 2.—When congress reconvenes John W. Pole, controller of currency, will renew his recommendations for amendment of the national banking laws to authorize establishment of regional branch banks. Developments during the past summer have convinced him, Pole said today, of the soundness of his suggestions made last winter when the senate banking and currency committee was studying the banking structure. This committee will resume its hearings in November and it is expected, soon after congress meets, to commend changes in the law. At Atlantic City next week the American Bankers Association is expected to discuss defects of the banking system and to make recommendations. Pole’s branch banking plan is on the convention agenda. Seminarists Hike 500 Miles By United Press TORTONA, Italy, Oct. 2.—Eight young Catholic seminarists, without money, but with sturdy legs, arrived here recently after walking all the way from Rome, a distance of more than 500 miles.
