SCHOOL RADIO PROGRAMS TO STARTOCT. U Approve Plan for WKBF Broadcasts Each Wednesday. Educational programs -under the sponsorship ol the Indianapolis public schools will be broadcast over WKBF starting Oct. 14, it was announced Tuesday night by Paul C. Stetson, superintendent of schools. The board of school commissioners approved the plans. The programs will be given every Wednesday night. Definite time has not been set as yet. Tentative plans also were formulated for a program for shut-in children. This will be given two or three times a week in the morning. Stuart Will Speak Chief purpose of the Wednesday night programs will be Information. Different department heads will speak concerning their work. Plans for the second broadcast, Oct. 21, call for a speech by Milo H. Stuart, assistant principal and president of the state teachers’ association, who will welcome the teachers to their convention to be held here starting Oct. 22. , Concerning the program for shutins, Stetson pointed out that ap-' proximately 1,500 children are out of school every day from sickness. Purpose Is Two-Fold In addition to this number, about 200 crippled children alone are not in school. Object of the morning broadcast will be to reach these youngsters with information and< antertainment. One of the features of the programs will be telling the children what their classes in school are studying. This, Stetson thinks, will help them to keep from getting behind in their work. “So far as I know,” Stetson said, “this is the first time such a plan has been tried anywhere. We hope to bring a little happiness to those children who can’t be in school. We aim at a two-fold puipose, entertainment and information.”
