THOUSANDS AT DEDICATION OF CITY'S AIRPORT Threatening Weather No Bar to Throngs at Opening Rites. (Continued from Page One) the land on which the Administration building at the airport was ■ built. Flying togs were popular among i women spectators in the huge crowd, many of whom, despite trousers and boots, helmets and goggles pushed carelessly back on fair heads, obviously were not fliers. Many never had been off the ground. Midget Plane Here One plane early to arrive and attracting much attention was a midget plane of the Texaco Oil Company, a red mid-wing monoplane, with tiny wings and a small fuselage. Although officials of the dedication circus hoped for no mishaps during the plane events, preparations for first aid were made and a field hospital established in a large tent under direction of Earl Wolff of the City hospital staff. Fire apparatus was kept ready on the field in case of a blaze. Jimmy Haizlip was a late arriver in his Shell Lockheed-Vega, and said his wife, Mrs. May Haizlip, would arrive later. She left the airport in St. Louis ahead of him in her Monocoupe, in a driving rain, and he passed her en route here. Jimmy Doolittle, famed stunt | flier, will arrive Saturday with his speedy Laird speedwing “Solution,” Haizlip Sbid. A brilliant assemblage of the nation’s most spectacular fliers will participate in the three-day dedication, including such nationally known fliers as Major Jimmy Doolittle, Jimmy Haizlip, Miss Dorothy Hester, Tex Rankin, crack pilots of army, navy, marine corps, national guard, and possibly Frank M. Hawks. In addition, a large field of lesser satellites was on hand to take part in races and contests. riaque to Re Unveiled One of the most spectacular events of the program will be ten parachute jumpers “bailing out” of a Ford tri-motored plane almost simultaneously at 4:20 this afternoon and Sunday afternoon. Ernest C. Ropkey. dedication committee general chairman, today said hopes of bringing the new navy dirigible Akron here during the program virtually had been abandoned, following communication with government officials. A handsome bronze plaque will be unveiled at the formal dedication ceremony at 2:30 Sunday. Principal address will be given by William P. MacCracken Jr., former assistant commerce department secretary for aeronautics. Several attempts for new aviation records are expected during the meet, in view of the fact that any records established here will be recognized by the National Aeronautic Association and by the Federation Internationale Aeronautique. Stunts on Program Miss Dorothy Hester, recognized as the nation’s most daring woman pilot, who will perform thrilling stunts daily, expects to attempt to break her own record of sixty-two outside loops. Lou Strickler, famous 17-year-old pilot, will seek to regain the light plane junior altitude record, which he lost recently to Kenneth Schultor, Hudson, 0., who ascended 16,500 feet. Strickler, whose home is at Teterboro, N. J., expects to reach 18,000 feet with his Aeronca. Spectators at the dedication will be kept in touch with proceedings through a public address system. The voice of Skyball Brinkley, famous aviation announcer, will be heard from loud speakers scattered around the entire field. Pigeons in Ceremony The dedication committee has announced donation of seventy-five pigeons by H. S. Wyeth, 5220 College avenue. These pigeons, their feathers dyed in all the colors of the rainbow, will be released after the formal dedication ceremony Sunday afternoon. Judges for racing events at the dedication are headed by Major Richard F. Taylor, One hundred thirteenth observation squadron commander. Committee Is Named Contest committee members are Colonel John S. Fishback, Indiana national guard; Captain Albert N. Guivera, regular army instructor for the Indiana guard; Lieutenant Stanton T. Smith. Schoen field commander; Lieutenant Cecil F. Reynolds and Captain John C. Hansen of the guard squadron. Technical committee members include Bob Shank, Hoosier airport president; Walter W. Winslow. Indiana Aircraft Trades Association president, and Lieutenant How ard H. Maxwell, Central Aeronautical Corporation secretary Winslow will be starter for events and Colonel A. J. Dougherty, eightyfourth division chief of staff, will be referee. Timing will be directed by Lieutenant Matt G. Carpenter, Indiana guard, and Harry Brunell, Indiannpolis Power and Light Company, will be scorer. Melon Raider Shot LAFAYETTE, Ind., Sept. 25.—An alleged raid on a melon patch resulted in confinement of Wayne Bush, 18. Stockwell, in a hospital here today with severe gunshot wounds. Bush, whose arms and legs were sprayed with shot, said a farmer fired on him and Cecil Platt and Ben Osborne Jr., also of Stockwell. Legal Notices TO CREDITORS TO FILE CLAIMS.
