RADIO IN EVERY ROOM. IF YOU TAKE FAIR HINT Electrical Fads Galore Are on Display at World Exhibit in N. Y. BY JOHN M. COOPER Unit'd Press Staff Correspondent NEW YORK, Sept. 23.—Under an artificial azure sky and a bellowing loud speaker, the eighth annual radio-electrical world's fair was going full blast today in Madison Square Garden. And the show has revealed that the latest fashion is to conceal the radio in the furniture. There are radios in grandfathers clocks, irt Louis XV bureaus, in pillows, bookcases and under the kitchen sink. In fact las one exhibitor explained enthusiastically) the really modern house should have a builtin radio equipment, with the master receiver in the attic and loud speakers in every room. By pressing a button, the busy housewife can make Jazz come out of Uncle Abner’s picture on the wall, and dinner music from under the dining table. Take It to Bed The button is on the end of a long wire, so you can take it to bed with you and hear music in your pillow. Another fad this year is for short-wave receivers which will pick up not only International broadcasts, but also police broadcasts, commercial messages, and new varieties of static. They come in a little box which hooks on to your regular set. The new phonographs were in evidence. They will do everything but wash the dishes and put out the cat. They change their own records without refilling, play all of them on one side, either side, or both sides, and they never drop a record. (That is, almost never.) Other Gadgets Shown Downstairs in the basement were displayed a marvelous variety of gadgets, including television and vacuum cleaners. There also were three Boy Scouts tinkering with radio sets, and a girl called the queen of the radio fair, who was sitting on a table powdering her nose. Lured by an invitation to listen to a broadcast from Europe, through the world’s largest radio receiving set, one correspondent put on the head-phones. The broadcast, it seemed, was coming from France. “Yurra, yurra!” an excited voice repeated. “Yurra, yurra, yurra. Un, deux, trois, et quatre. Yurra yurra. Un moment.”
BAKER BLOCKS PLEA DEAL IN DEATH CASE Refuses to Let Wife Slayer Take Manslaughter Sentence. Willingness of Orus Corwin Taylor, 36, of 36 South Grace street, charged with first degree murder, to plead guilty to voluntary manslaughter and receive a sentence of two to twenty-one years was blocked today when Criminal Judge Frank P. Baker refused to accept the plea. Baker ordered that Taylor be tried on the murder charge by a jury as soon as possible, declaring the court could not agree to a manslaughter verdict in face of a confession made by Taylor to police. Taylor has been in jail since the killing of his wife, Mrs. Olive Bernice Taylor, at their heme, July 12. The defendant has contended he did not intend to kill his wife, but “her nagging drove me mad." He pleaded the shooting was accidental, following a quarrel. Sept. 23.—The United States ranks fourth among the world powers in military aviation because there is no need for her to rank first, it was said at the war department here today. A statistical survey, just issued by Carl Byoir and associates, of New York, showed France in the lead, England second and Italy third in the number of military planes and aviators. The survey also showed that, although France has nearly three times as many fighting planes as the United States, she is spending only about half as much as this country, whose military air expenditures are the greatest In the world. This, It is explained, is due to the fact that all costs are lower in France, and that France can get more for her money than America.

m PAIR IN WOODS Alleged Gasoline Thieves Wreck Car in Flight. Two alleged gasoline thieves were captured in a woods near Shelbyville early today, after a south side resident pursued them from in front of his home, where he saw them draining an auto’s gas tank about 4 o’clock. Earl Marple, 2174 South East street, phoned police about the theft after, he said, he watched the pair drain gas from a car. But before a police squad arrived the two men started away. Marple chased them to within ten miles of Shelbyville, where their auto plunged into a ditch. The pair ran from the wreck into a field. Marple went on to Shelbyville and with the sheriff they came back and searched the vicinity, rounding up the two men in a woods. They said they were George Messingale, 2616 East Twenty-sixth street, and his cousin, Clarence Messingale, same address. Indianapolis detectives left to return them here. Legal Notices LEGAL NOTICE.
