BY DICK MILLER Nine regular games, one high class exhibition struggle and two varsity-frosh battles- are on the card for Indiana’s collegiate gridmen this week. TLree games will be played under the arcs, Butler and Franklin renewing relations at the gigantic north side bowl Friday night and Danville and Ball Teachers colliding at Muncie. Hanover will travel to Dayton, O. I. U. Has Strong Foe Highly Important and a game of the first grade variety will be staged at Bloomington next Saturday when the Hayes-coached Hoosiers swing into action. The opponent will be Ohio university, a team with a record of nineteen consecutive wins. Indiana will take the field with a promising looking aggregation, including some stellar leftovers from last season, and the recruits from last fall’s dandy freshman squad. Coach E. c. Hayes, a great conditioner of men, sent the varsity 1 hrough its first scrimmage last Saturday afternoon before student body and visiting newspaper scribes. In an effort to get their team in shape for the Indiana game on Oct. 3, Heartley Anderson and Jack Chevigny, Notre Dame mentors, are going to divide the first string into regulars and shock troops and stage a regular game at South Bend for the benefit of the Rockne memorial field house. And it should be a red hot scrap. There are several positions wide open on the Irish varsity that may be decided upon through the performance Saturday. Varsity-Frosh Clashes The annual varsity-freshman game will be staged at Purdue and also at De Pauw. Both teams do not swing into action until Saturday. Oct. 3, with regular conflicts. Indianapolis will get its first glimpse of collegiate football Friday night at Butler bowl when Franklin and Butler renew their ancient rivalry under the arcs. Coach Harry M. Bell is hopeful of rounding out a fair team, but does not have a very large squad. At Franklin, Roy Tillotson, beginning his second year, has most of last year's team back and some promising new ones that will make the Baptists pretty tough. Saturday finds Wabash opening
