3 BANDITS DIE AS KIDNAP PLOT IS FRUSTRATED Station Attendant Stages Gun Battle With Trio Plotting Capture. By United Press ATLANTA, Tex., Sept. 18.—J. H. Boyd, 50-year-old filling station operator, who killed hte stepson and two other alleged kidnapers in a gun battle in which he and a fourth assailant w’ere wounded, related the story of the attack today to authorities. The victims of the middle-aged gasoline attendant’s markmanship in his battle for life were his stepon, William Fish, 30; Hardy Luce, 45, and Early Sullivan. The wounded man was William Sullivan, a brother of Sullivan. He is in a Shreveport (La.) hospital in a critical condition. The motive for attempted abduction of Boyd was lacking in his first story to authoriites. It was believed that ill feeling between Boyd and his stepson was responsible. Lured to Highway The first, word of the killings was obtained when Boyd staggered into a doctor's office at midnight, seeking medical attention. Officers then went to the scene of the killings. They found Luce’s body in the front seat of an automobile and Sullivan’s in the back seat. Fish was lying in the road, and Bill Sullivan, wounded, was beside him. “One of the men came to my station, said their automobile had run out of gasoline,” Boyd said. “I got a can of gasoline and drove out on the Shreveport highway. Grabbed at Car “There three men were waiting for us at the automobile. Two of the men were inside and one was on the road. One of the men grabbed me and struck me on the head.” Boyd said he fired four shots as rapidly as he could pull the trigger. Two of the men slumped. A bullet then tore into Boyd’s right arm, breaking it. He changed the pistols over to his left hand and fired two more shots. Anothher bullet made a furrow across Boyd’s _ chest, but the fight was over. Boyd was expected to recover. LANDSCAPING” PLANNED Made-work Labor to Be Used on City Project This Winter.
