LONG LIST OF THEFTS CLEARED UP BURREST Booming House Crook Is Caught and Confesses to 30 Robberies. After looting north side rooming houses since May 15, Cecil Brooks, 31, of Linton, Ind., today was held by police and is said to have admitted thefts in thirty residences. Brooks was arrested on his way to an Indiana avenue pawn shop that he had been using as one of his two “fences” in disposing of loot obtained in the robberies, he said. Detectives Tom Barnaby and Prank Daily, who have trailed Brooks since his operations first began, made the arrest at North street and Indiana avenue. Can’t Remember Places “I can’t remember half of the places,” he told the detectives, who estimated his total loot, taken from the places in handbags, would be valued at more than SI,OOO. Included in the stolen articles, Brooks is said to have .confessed, were articles of wearing apparel, jewelry and a violin, value of which was S2OO, but which he parwned for $4. Police are holding him on burglary and grand larceny counts. They say he escaped from Sullivan, Ind., April 4, where he was serving a burglary sentence. Sullivan authorities are expected to seek his return there. Used False Names The other “fence” that Brooks Gaid he used, was a woman living on West North street. He is said to have admitted she paid him Gmail amounts for the articles he brought her and they were “cleared” by a man named “Shorty.” The woman and the man now are sought by officers. Among places which Brooks said he remembered looting are 2310 North Illinois street, 122 West Eighteenth street, 1465 North New Jersey street and 2203 North Pennsylvania street. He is said to have admitted registering under false names at the rooming houses. HOOVER IN NOBEL FIELD Gandhi and MacDonald Also Named as Possible Prize Winners. By United Press OSLO, Norway, Sept. 10—President Hoover, Mahatma Gandhi, and Prime Minister MacDonald were mentioned as possible Nobel prize winners today by the newspaper Morgenbladt. The prizes are given to those who contribute most to the benefit of mankind during the year. They are offered for physics, chemistry, medicine, literature, and peace. Dr. Karl Landsteiner, Frank B. Kellogg, and Sinclair Lewis were Americans awarded Nobel prizes in 1930. Weeping Prosecutor Is Dead By United Press NEW YORK, Sept. 10—Ira. G Darrin, former district attorney of Queens whose excessive faith in human nature caused him to weep at the stories told by convicted felons whom he prosecuted, is dead. He was 72.
