afternoon for Dr. Samuel Harrell, noted physician, who died at his home late Tuesday night after long illness. Death followed a paralytic stroke and attendant c o m p 1 i c ations several months ago. Although Dr. Harrell had been in ill health more than a decade, his condition was

serious only during the last two months. Dr. Harrell was born near Shelbyville, April 17, 1869, received his preliminary education in Shelby county schools, and after teaching school three years matriculated at the University of Michigan, where he took his medical degree. Pioneer in Transfusions Quickly gaining recognition as a Physician Dr. Harrell began studying and practicing surgery, and is accredited with one of the first blood transfusions performed in the state. At the turn of the century Dr. Harrell was studying in Vienna and later in Paris. Back in the United States several yeac|i later he continued his studies in various hospitals and clinics, and attended clinics at the Mayo Brothers’ hospital in Rochester, Minn. Dr. Harrell formerly was president of the Indiana Institute of Homeopathy, and was a member of Pi Upsilon Rho, a medical fraternity. Founder of Hospital In 1909 he and his brother, Dr. Madison H. Harrell, constructed the Harrell hospital here. Later it was purchased by Hamilton county. He was a member of the Nobles- - Masonic lodge, a thiry-second degree Scottish Rite Mason and a Shriner, and a member of local Elks, Knights of Pythias and Modern Woodmen lodges, as well as a trustee of the First Presbyterian church, where funeral services are to be held. Survivors are: the widow, Mrs. Vivian Harrell, and three sons, Dr. Voss Harrell and Maurice T. Harrell of Detroit, and Samuel Runnels Harrell, an official of the Ac-me-Evans Company here.

McGregor succeeds C. Dolly Gray, who resigned the chairmanship but will remain on the committee. Dr. Davis M. Edwards will speak on “Russia—ls She a Menace to World Peace?” tonight before the Young Men’s Club of the Y. M. C. A. Dr. Edwards is Indiana Council on International Relations executive secretary and traveled in Russia a year ago. Indications of greater business activity with more than seasonal developments this fall were discussed by Paul J. Stokes, National Retail Hardware Association research director, in an address at a luncheon of the Purchasing Agents’ Association Tuesday at the Severin. Indianapolis police today were asked to search for Harry Cochran to notify him of the death of his mother in Youngstown, O. New display rooms of Baldwin Studios, Inc., to be located at 27 East Ohio street in the Hume-Man-sur building, will embody the "studio effect.” according to plans of officials of the company. Giving the customer a picture of the piano as it would appear in his own home is the object of the display. Indianapolis Past Pocahontas Association will hold a drill meeting on Thursday night at 9 in Red Men’s hall, Capitol avenue and North street. AUTO THIEVES SOUGHT Gunman, Woman Companion Take Car of John Ostermeyer. An armed bandit and his woman companion who forced John Ostermeyer, 26, of 1527 East Southern avenue, to drive them several blocks and then stole his car, are sought today by police. Climbing Crook Borrows Ladder, Breaks Way Into Apartment, Loots Rooms.
“OAY, I left my driver’s license Cj in my apartment. Lend me your ladder, will you?” And C. A. Reed, 1816 East Kelly street, who was working on a building in the rear of 635 North West street, turned his ladder over to the Negro, who made the request Tuesday afternoon. The man climbed to apartment 5, broke a window and shortly afterward walked out of the building. # Mrs. Jennie Arline, Negro, apartment 3, told police she was watching the place while Frank White, Negro, occupant of the apartment, was out of the city. She told officers the place was looted, but could not determine what was nfi^jing.
